1.0 Introduction
The HF option board is mounted inside the Uniflo 1200 GVEC cabinet. It is able to count and check
HF pulses from 0 - 5000 Hz.
The option board functions include HF/HF-check (comparison between two HF-pulses), HF/LF-check
(comparison between HF-pulses on the HF option board and LF-pulses on the Uniflo 1200), error curve
compensation and flow calculation.
Definitions
Technicians are qualified persons educated or trained to mount, operate, and also troubleshoot technically
correct and in accordance with safety regulations.
Limitations
This manual only applies to the following Product numbers:
and only for mounting in a Uniflo 1200 with SW version 00120020 or newer.
The HF option board cannot run without power supply from one of these option boards:
The HF option board has to be placed inside the Uniflo, in such a way, that there is at least one option board
distance to other option boards.
Repair of the unit and replacement of components must be done by Flonidan only. If the fuse has to be
changed, it must be with a fuse of the same type and delivered by Flonidan.
2.0 Mounting
Only technicians who are familiar with the technical terms, warnings, and instructions in the manual and who
are able to follow these should connect the module.
Should there be any doubt as to the correct handling of the module, please contact your local distributor or,
alternatively,

Tel. +45 75618888 - Fax +45 75626088 - E-mail: mail@flonidan.dk
Mounting and connection of the module should comply with national legislation for mounting of electric
materials, i.a. wire cross-section, protective fuse, and location. Descriptions of input / output and supply
connections will follow in this paper.
When mounting the option board please also observe the guidelines in the paper "ESD correct handling".

The HF option board can be connected to various pulse transmitters. Some of these may require
external power supply.
The required power supply can be set in the Uniflo Configuration software program

5. Mount the 2 screws and strain relief securely. If it’s a shielded cable then terminate the shield under
the strain relief. Keep the unshielded wires to the screw terminals as short and direct as possible, to
avoid EMC interference.
6. Turn on the power supply (first external supply and then battery).
The unit automatically starts initialising, setting up the board address and adding the “new”
parameters into Uniflo Config.
3.0 Functionality
3.1 General
The option board counters are read every second. The actual flow (measured flow) is calculated based on
the actual number of pulses received in the last second. Based on the measured flow the corrected flow is
calculated. Increments on the measured and corrected volume are done, and at last the actual and corrected
flow is checked for high flow limit violation.
The Uniflo 1200 uses measured flow, measured volume, corrected flow and corrected volume from the HF
board instead of the same values collected from the build in LF ports.

10 pair of Flow/Error values has to be entered. If the meter has fewer pair's, the last pair of Flow/Error values
is just repeated until all 10 pair's has been filled.
Flow meter manufacturers normally specify a meter flow error. This parameter is called “Real flow error”. It is
calculated as follows:
“Real flow” is the flow figures of the reference meter, and “Indicated flow” is the flow from the meter.
But some times the flow meter manufactures specify an indicated meter flow error. This parameter is called
"Indicated flow error". It is calculated as follows:
The HF can only use "Real Flow Error" values therefore in the case of "Indicated Flow Error" the error values
has to be converted using the following formula:
Real Flow Error % = ((Indicated Flow Error %)/(100 - Indicated Flow Error %)) * 100
When the measured flow has been read, the flow is checked/compared to the lowest flow value in the error
table. If the measured flow is lower than the table flow value, the error is specified as the error value of
lowest error table flow (in the example 1.37%).
If the measured flow is higher than the lowest flow in the error table, the measured flow is checked to see if it
is higher than the highest error table flow. If the measured flow is higher, the error is specified as the error
value of highest error table flow (in the example - 0.55%).
HF_Option_Board_111105.doc
If none of the above mentioned tests are true, the error table is “searched” to find the correct flow interval
and the actual flow error is calculated as a linear interpolation between the error values for the selected flow
interval.
Example:
If the measured flow is 632 m3/h, the flow interval from the table is 487 to 852 m3/h. The error % is calculated
as follows:
EQmax EQmin
err ( MeasuredFlow Qmin ) EQmin
Qmax Qmin
0,50 ( 0,34)
err (632 487) ( 0,34) 0,404
852 487
Notice that the error is a negative figure. This means that the meter index shows to low a figure.
Consequently, the error % must be added to the measured flow.
The corrected flow is then calculated as:
Notice: The error curve compensation is only performed if the flow is higher than Qmin. and Qmin. is higher
than 10 Hz. This is described in the EN 12405 standard as the lowest flow values for error curve
compensation.

If HF/HF comparison is activated do not use "Max pulse error" equal to 1, this will lead to problems with
timing on receiving pulses on channel A and B.
It's only pulses received on channel A that are used for calculation of flow and increment of volume values.
The HF meter pulse output has to be connected to the HF option board channel A input and the LF meter
pulse output has to be connected to both channel A and B on the Uniflo 1200.
After a fixed number of pulses on LF A or B (set up in location "Pulse check every" under the "Flow" tab in
Uniflo Config) the number of pulses received on channel A and B is compared and if the difference is larger
than a given number of pulses (set up in location "Max. pulse error" under the "Flow" tab in Uniflo Config) an
alarm is raised.
The HF/LF comparison is only performed if "Pulse check every" and "Max. pulse error" under the "Flow" tab
both are different from 0.
If HF/LF comparison is activated do not use "Max. pulse error" under the "Flow" tab equal to 1, this will lead
to problems with timing on receiving pulses on the LF and HF channels.
It's only pulses received on the HF that are used for calculation of flow and increment of volume values.
3.5 Flowstop
If the flow is lower than specified in "Min. flow", the error curve compensation and HF/HF comparison are no
longer performed. The flow will still be calculated, but the volume values will not be updated.
All functionality will be performed when the flow again exceeds the "Min. flow".
When the power returns the HF option board will resume pulse counting and the Uniflo 1200 will again use
the flow values.
On return of Power the HF option board will set the alarm "Power up reset"

NPN 14.3 V 10000 No

HF_Option_Board_111105.doc
The Tamper alarm functionality can only be used when pulse transmitter have a continues current flow of
min. 0,8 mA.
The LED indication is activated in the configuration program and it's only active for one minute at the time (to
save consumption. Just activate the function again if longer time is needed for test).
5.0 Alarms
The following alarms may occur:
- HF/HF comparison
- HF/LF comparison
- Tamper alarm for pulse transmitter 1
- Tamper alarm for pulse transmitter 2
- Flow higher than "Max. flow"
- Power up reset
- Communication error

6.3 Connection to outputs in nonhazardous environment
The HF input do not conform to the 500 V test of clause 6.4.12 in EN 50020:2002. Therefore if the HF port
leaves the hazardous environment it has to be through a galvanically isolated barrier.

On the old version the counting input is on the right side and on the new version it’s on the left side
(compatible with the LF input in the Uniflo 1200) and visa versa for the pulse check input.
