REFLECTION

The purpose of education is to help learners understand, and teaching is the

means by which this purpose is performed out. Assessment is the primary
element of the learning-teaching process that defines the level of learner
outcomes attainment. Determining whether or not students have learned what
they should have learned is the explicit goal of assessment. This evaluation
reflective essay examines assessment in terms of what it is, what it should not be,
how to constructively connect assessment with learning outcomes, valid
assessment procedures, and other topics. It is based on my own experiences as a
student and emphasizes the need for careful evaluation in order to provide an
accurate information on student learning. Assessment should convey the proper
messages to learners.

As a student I learned that assessing student’s knowledge, abilities and attitudes

involves both qualitative and quantitative methods. Assessments may concentrate
on either individual or group learning. The use of assessment procedures is crucial
in the teaching profession. They not only demonstrate what the students have
learned, but they also offer crucial data regarding the efficiency of a lesson, unit, or
curriculum. To ascertain student understanding, numerous assessment methods
must be applied. Students that participate in the assessment process may see
how their knowledge has developed, which gives them inspiration and pride to
continue learning. Assessment is all about my grades, the results and the
outcomes. Traditional assessment methods were used throughout my primary
and secondary even today education because they were widely accepted.
Although the traditional method has been successful for many years and may even
interest students, it does not support a variety of student learning styles. Academic
and teaching personnel must participate in reflective practice and discover
approaches to improving learning and teaching.

As I consider my assessment views, I realize that I have three goals as a tertiary

student and to my future self as a teacher: first, I want to encourage positive
learning; second, I want to inspire learners' excitement for learning; and third, I
want to build a solid basis for lifetime learning.
