Abstract
There are lots of factors that are tremendously affecting the college and university
graduates every year and because of that there are many young people especially within
Port Moresby and other urban centers. And so because of that we have come up with this
research topic ().it has help us identify some factors that mostly affect ones limited ability
for succesfull based on unemployment issues like nepotism high leve of expevtation and
family problem

Introduction
Background

(As the first part of your research proposal, this is the initial pitch for your project.

Ensure you succinctly explain what you (as the researcher) want to do and why. The

proposal introduction should):

 introduce the research topic by providing a description of the basic facts and

importance of the research area. (Literature may be cited where required)

 Present sufficient background information and describe the context of your

research focus.

 What is your research area, motivation of research, and how important is it for the

industry practice, knowledge or advancement?

 (Estimated word limit = 400-500 words)

Significance of the study

(Why is this research worth doing? What new insights could your research contribute?)

(Est. words= 200 -250 words in one paragraph)

Research Problem Statement

(Make a clear expression or statement of the area of concern, a condition that needs to be

addressed/ improved or a difficulty to be eliminated or troubling question that exists in

literature that needs an answer. The key things your statement should demonstrate are:

Put the problem in context (what do we already know?)

Describe the precise issue that the research will address (what do we need to know?)
Show the relevance of the problem (why do we need to know it?)

Set the objectives of the research (what will you do to find out?)

Use the 3 steps or 5 steps approach to writing your problem statement in about no more

than 200- 250 words).

Research Questions (or Research Hypothesis)

(If you are using research questions, use one main research question and two or three sub-

research questions):

This study is guided by a key research question and (state the number of) sub-research

questions as follow:

Main research question

Sub-research question

Hypothesis (List your hypotheses statements here)

2
Literature Review

(Estimated number of words: 1000)

(In this section, aim to demonstrate exactly how your project will contribute to

conversations in the field.)

 Compare and contrast: what are the main theories, methods, debates and

controversies?

(Do this in the body of the literature review)

 Be critical: what are the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches? (Do

this also in the body of your literature review)

 Show how your research fits in: how will you build on, challenge, or synthesize the

work of others? (towards the end of your literature review).

 Use level 2 and 3, sub-heading levels in this section.

 Combine several of these strategies to develop your review of literature:

 Chronological

The simplest approach is to trace the development of the topic over time.

However, if you choose this strategy, be careful to avoid simply listing and

summarizing sources in order. Try to analyze patterns, turning points and

key debates that have shaped the direction of the field. Give your

interpretation of how and why certain developments occurred.

 Thematic

If you have found some recurring central themes, you can organize your

literature review into subsections that address different aspects of the topic.
3
 Methodological

If you draw your sources from different disciplines or fields that use a

variety of research methods, you might want to compare the results and

conclusions that emerge from different approaches. For example, Look at

what results have emerged in qualitative versus quantitative research.

Discuss how the topic has been approached by empirical versus theoretical

scholarship. Example, divide the literature into sociological, historical, and

cultural sources.

 Theoretical

A literature review is often the foundation for a theoretical framework. You can

use it to discuss various theories, models, and definitions of key concepts. You

might argue for the relevance of a specific theoretical approach, or combine

various theoretical concepts to create a framework for your research.

(After developing your review, delete the above notes)

Research Design and Methods

(Estimated number of words: 800-1000 words)

(In this section, describe the overall approach and practical steps you will take to answer

your research questions). (

Research design

 State if your research will use a qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods research

design.
4
 If research is a mixed- methods one, explain the specific MM design (exploratory,

explanatory or convergent; see Creswell’s books)

 Will you collect original data or work with primary or secondary sources?

 Is your research design descriptive, correlational, or experimental?

 Justify in a statement why your research design is the suitable one to use and how

will this contribute to answering your research question. Cite literature to support

your statement.

Data sources

Participants (or subjects of the study)

 Exactly what or who will you study (e.g. local community leaders, departmental

heads Scottish newspaper archives 1976-80)?

 State why each sample will be included as participant (subject) in this study.

Sampling method

 How will you select subjects or sources (e.g. random sampling, purposive,

stratified)?

 State why/justify your choice of the sampling method. Why is this method the

suitable one? Cite literature to support your claim.

Research site/Context

 When and where will you collect the data?

 Give a brief description of the research context/or research site (i.e where

5
Research methods

(What tools and procedures will you use (e.g. surveys, interviews, observations,

experiments) to collect and analyze data? Why are these the best methods to answer your

research questions?

Data collection methods

 What tools and procedures will you use (e.g. surveys, interviews, observations,

experiments etc…) to collect and analyze data?

 Why are these the best methods to answer your research questions? Cite literature

(e.g. textbook) to support.

Data analysis methods

 How will you analyse the data you collected from using the data collection

methods stated above?

 Example: qualitative data from interview and focus group discussion; documents,

narratives, or video/still images or quantitative data from structures questionnaire;

counted contents of a document?

 Why is/are these the best methods to answer your research questions? Cite

literature (e.g. textbook) to support.

Ethics management

(estimated words: 200)

 How will you gain access to participants or sources? (to address this, you need to

prepare your participants information sheet, their informed consent form and any

other necessary documents. These will be your proposal appendices)

6
 Describe how you will store the collected and analysed data?

 Do you foresee any potential obstacles, and how will you address them? Describe

this.

Research timeline

(indicate the main milestone and proposed due date for each milestone).

Budget

Make a budget for your research project.
