General Theories of Organisational Communication

There are many theories involved regarding the passage of time being applied in
business organisations for communicational purposes. Among them, 3 effective
communication theories are discussed below in the perspective of LearnEnglish UK.

Critical Theory- Critical theory states that Conflict is a usual matter in every
organization (Bisen and Priya., 2016). Because of conflict, some various problems
created there like employees ignore to resist managers, all the departments compete for
the budgets, etc.

Conflict ignore their compete for
Managers their budgets

Figure 1: Critical Theory (Ober,2015)

In this theory, upper management tries to give proper motivation to the lower
management so that the communication will be transferred properly. Communication in
LearnEnglish UK under this theory deals with the role of solving any problems, providing
proper direction to the lower management for gaining the goals of LearnEnglish UK.
After that, the communication system will have occurred properly.

Post-Positive Theory- Post positive theory deals with “Order”. Order is natural in every
organization. Top-level managers give orders to the lower-level managers or lower
management to do the tasks regarding their goals properly. Orders are not always good

4|Page
Figure 2: Post-Positive Theory (Hartley,2015)

for lower management (Hartley, 2015). Sometimes they feel demotivated about their
tasks as well as about their top management. So, the orders must be having some good
points for the lower management. So that they won’t feel demotivated about their tasks.
Then the lower management must obey the rules of the organization. Communication
under this theory focuses on the people that must obey the rules of the organization
(Ober, 2015). In LearnEnglish UK, the lower management must obey the rules of
LearnEnglish UK. So that the communication will be delivered properly and it also
creates a good impression of LearnEnglish UK.

Information Theory- Information theory focuses on how any types of information or

data deliver with some mistakes (Brownell, 2018). Mistakes are a very common problem
in communication. Because of some mistakes, sometimes information is transferred
wrongly.

So that it creates a bad impact on this organization. So that the employees get
demotivated. If LearnEnglish UK wants to deliver proper information, they must not do
any mistakes. So that the communication will be transferred properly both inside the
LearnEnglish UK and outside. This will create a good impression of LearnEnglish UK.

The Barriers of Communication at LearnEnglishUK

LearnEnglish UK schools have 2 branches. One branch is in London and another

branch is in Manchester. Around 1000 students attending these schools throughout the
year. Suddenly the students are complaining about some problems with their academic
activities (McKenzie and Qazi, 2018).

Traffic Problem- Both branches of LearnEnglish UK English Language School are in

the central locations. So that both locations are always busy and face some tragic traffic
problems. Because of this traffic problem, the students aren’t able to give proper
attention to their respective teachers. At the time of the Summer season, students want
to open their classroom windows for proper air circulation but that time they face
problems hearing their teacher. Sometimes, because of the terrific traffic, students won’t
attend their class on time. This will create a bad impact on the students.

Aged Building- LearnEnglish UK School is a very ancient school. So that the buildings
of that school are very much aged. So that the students face some problems when they

enter their school building. The problems are in both branches. The buildings are old so
that the air circulation system is not properly occurred. Students face some proper
insulation problems (Longenecker and Neubert, 2017). At the time of the Winter season,
students can’t focus on their teachers as well as their academic lessons because they
feel so much cold. So that the students fail to give proper attention to their academic
activities.

Weak Wi-Fi Signal- The Wi-Fi signal of both cities are very much frail (Could, 2017). So
that at the time of Face-time the students aren’t given proper attention when they came
home. After completing the class, students came home for giving the time to their family
and friends at their Face-time. But they can’t do this properly because of the poor Wi-Fi
connection. So, it creates a bad impact on the students as well as their family members
and their friends.

Few Cultural Activities- Students always love the cultural activities of their school
(Golen, 2018). Cultural activities help a student for enriching their soft skills and
proficiency. But in the LearnEnglish UK School, there are a few cultural activities that
happened every year. So that the students feel some problems about their society and
societal activities. Cultural activities can help the student to be more social. Because of
a few activities, the students are lagging behind all of the British Societal activities.
Students are always homesick. If there are lots of cultural activities happened in
LearnEnglish UK school every year, the students will be more benefited. Students feel
less homesick at that time.

LearnEnglish UK Strategies to Overcome the Barriers

LearnEnglish UK English Language School faces some problems with their students.
The problems or barriers need to be overcome for the betterment of their students. As a
Director of LearnEnglish UK School, I need to take some actions. They are-

1. Talk to the Mayor- The LearnEnglish UK school branches both are in the Central
area (Darrow, 2018). So, the administration or the governing body of the school needs
to talk to the Mayor of both states to take initiative about solving the traffic problem. The
traffic problem is a very critical obstacle. This problem is never solved in 1 day. The key
point is at the time of class time, the traffic system needs to be controlled very gently so
that the students can attend their class properly and give proper attention to their
academic activities.

2. Renovate the Old Building- The buildings of both branches of LearnEnglish UK

school are very much aged. So that the building needs to be renovated and constructed
for the betterment of the school. Once the building will be reformed properly, the student

will get more joyous to concentrate on their classes properly. The renovated buildings
must have some measurements like Fire Extinguisher, Emergency Exit, Proper Air
Circulation pathway, Proper ventilator system, Pure drinking water facilities, prayer
room, etc (Cook, 2018).

3. Powerful Wi-Fi Connection- Wi-Fi connection needs to be stronger than the

previous signal (Cushman and King, 2017). After completing the classes, students
come home to give some time to their family and friends through Face-time. But
because of the low Wi-Fi signal, they don’t give proper time to their family and friends.
For that reason, the students get retarded about their academics. The Wi-Fi connection
needs to be very powerful so that the students can give proper time and attention to
their family and friends. The governing body of the school needs to talk to the state
councilor of London and Manchester for giving a powerful Wi-Fi connection. So that the
students can take part in their academic studies surely.

4.Significant number of Cultural Activities- In LearnEnglish UK English Language

School, there are a few cultural activities that happened every year. So that the students
get demotivated and discouraged about the activities of British Society. To get rid of this
problem, the number of cultural activities of the school needs to be bigger (Darrow,
2018). Then the students can easily know their society properly through the activities of
these cultural sectors. They can also take part in cultural activities as well. These
activities will enlarge the societal knowledge of any students.

Conclusion

From the above respective discussion, it is to say that for the betterment of this famed
LearnEnglish UK school, the barriers need to be solved properly. As a director of

LearnEnglish UK, these strategies should be applied soon for the future betterment of
this English Language School. Students are the heart of the school. So, for the life of
the students, the measurements need to be taken as early as possible.
