Role of a GP in Pakistan

General practice is a specialty which provides health care facility to all

over ages including young, women, children and old age patients. This
unique and state of art specialty playing essential role in Pakistan
equally in all communities. A General Practioner is a role model of
society who creates healthy Community, and a healthy community has
great role in creating healthy country.
Currently this field has been neglected in Pakistan since decades, it has
created a vacuum in provision of essential health services to
communities it is the reason that a huge Burdon of non-essential OPDs
has been observed in DHQs and Teaching Hospitals in recent past,
Hospital systems are collapsed and stopped providing Specialty care,
where essential role of Tertiary care hospitals has been influenced by
non-essential OPDs and a big financial Burdon is on Health sector by
doing undue Investigations, Radiology, and procedures where wastage
of resources has been noticed.
Here one should not forget a role of GP who can maintain liaison
between Heath Sector and people of Pakistan, a good GP can reduce
the cost of Huge budget by screening out very simple diseases
communicable or non-communicable by his knowledge and
communication. A good GP is also a good psychiatrist who can provide
essential care of psychiatry including psychiatry tutorials and essential
health education services to people of Pakistan.
Health Sector can strengthen the hands of GPs all over Pakistan by
providing them, basic necessities of carrier counselling, continuing
medical education, essential programs of certificates, diplomas, and
Vacations. Sector can provide them special Loans on low mark up to
upgrade their clinics as the GP may play his influential role in society to
upgrade health status of people of Pakistan.
