ABSTRACT
This publication makes available for convenient use six of the most essential tables of dimensions of
fastening screws as published in the 1928 Report of the National Screw Thread Commission (Sec. Ill and Appen-
dix 4), Bureau of Standards Miscellaneous Publication No. 89. 1 These tables cover the basic sizes, limiting
dimensions, tolerances, and tap-drill sizes for the American National coarse and fine thread series.

Dimensions given for the maximum minor diameter of the screw are figured to the intersection of the
worn tool arc with a center line through crest and root. The minimum minor diameter of the screw shall be
that corresponding to a fiat at the minor diameter of the minimum screw equal to ){X p, and may be determined
by subtracting the basic thread depth, h (or 0.6495 p), from the minimum pitch diameter of the screw.
2
Dimensions for the minimum major diameter of the nut correspond to the basic flat (}£Xp) and the
profile at the major diameter produced by a worn tool must not fall below the basic outline. The maximum
major diameter of the nut shall be that corresponding to a flat at the major diameter of the maximum nut equal
to lit Xp, and may be determined by adding V/tXh (or 0.7939 p) to the maximum pitch diameter of the nut.
