Introduction

Every person's life now revolves around their mobile device. Nowadays,

everyone is addicted to their phone. While we can dismiss this as a typical

modern practice, the reality is that it has significant behavioral and social

ramifications. The problem of mobile addiction is quite real and warrants serious

concern. It has an impact on our relationships, health, and employment. (WHO,

2020).

According to Zamani (2019), modern cultures' most popular forms of

entertainment are computer games, which appeal to a wide range of age groups.

Today's youth are addicted to the competition and thrills of video games, making

them the most popular leisure activities. They will do anything to advance in the

game, and they become so engrossed in it that they lose all awareness of their

surroundings. The players get excited when they have to overcome hurdles and

advance in the game, and they get nervous when they lose.Like most diseases

and illnesses, one can deduce if someone is undergoing the exhibited symptoms’

syndrome. Research has revealed that using mobile phones have killed 6,000

people each year. Besides that, here are some other effects of cell phone

addictions that can affect us. Looking down at the mobile phone for an extended

period causes them to have back and neck pain issues. According to studies,

45% of the youngsters from the age of 16 to 24 years suffer from back pain due

to the over usage of mobile phones. Besides that, the endless swapping of

phones and texting can make our fingers stiff.

Mental and emotional health issues are another frequent result that we

typically hear from specialists. Our lives become out of balance when we spend

too much time on our phones and neglect other aspects of our lives. Spending

too much time staring at a mobile device screen might also make us feel agitated

and uncomfortable. We may find ourselves with less time to exercise or even just

take a stroll if we spend too much time on our phones. The use of mobile phones

has significantly replaced many of our daily physical activities. A survey of

schoolchildren revealed that those who spent more time on their phones were

less fit than those who used them less frequently.

The increasing prevalence of computer games among children and

adolescents have made many researcher to determine the effects of these

games on players. In the community, there are few and limited studies on the

effects of addiction to computer games on players. Considering the increasing

rate of addiction to computer games among Iranian adolescents and youth, the

present study was conducted to investigate the effects of addiction to computer

games on physical and mental health including physical health, anxiety, and

depression and impaired social functioning.

Body

A study from anti-bullying charity, Cybersmile, reveals that almost half (46

per cent) of young people aged 12-16 feel they’re addicted to their smartphones.

Launching today, on Stop Cyberbullying Day, the research reveals how the UK’s

younger generation perceive their own digital wellbeing and the associated risks

to their mental and physical health. The research, which informed Cybersmile’s

new report titled ‘Digital Wellbeing 2020, surveyed 1,000 children aged 12-16,

examining their thoughts on how they are using and experiencing online devices

and platforms now and pre-lockdown.

Mobile phones give us the liberty to connect with anyone around the world

spontaneously. They empower us to find any information we require and are a

great source of entertainment. While this device was designed to empower us,

sadly, it’s turning out to subjugate us. Almost every mobile user is suffering from

the addiction of mobile these days.

Believe it or not, smartphone use can be beneficial for teens. Teens use

smartphones to connect with peers, seek help on school assignments, and they

can even use apps to help them get organized. Although it might seem like teens

are constantly connected, many use their devices within healthy limits.

Teens should be given the tools they need to manage their own smartphone

use and strike a healthy balance. This is not a one-off discussion. The

following are a few things you can do to help offer direction and support:

Educate: Discuss openly the advantages and dangers of screen use. Asking

your teenagers for their opinions on the positives and negatives can result in

engaging discussions rather than the usual good consequences of lecturing.

Make a plan. Talk about setting healthy limits and boundaries for the

family and what checks and balances you can use to stick to them, like not

allowing phone use during dinner. Remember, teens aren’t the only ones

prone to overuse.

As a family, monitor usage. When they believe they are being

observed, teens search for workarounds. Make online monitoring a family

priority so that teenagers are accountable for their usage and behavior.

Several apps are available to keep an eye on when and how your teenagers

use their phones. There is now a "screentime" setting on the iPhone. You

may use this to monitor usage, set reasonable time limitations for particular

apps (such as xx hours per day for social media), and schedule automatic

app shutdowns.

Talk to your teenagers about reasonable and healthy

boundaries.Create a check-in policy: Phones, tablets, and laptops should be

removed from the bedroom at night to curb sleep disturbance and insomnia.

Create a plan to check devices in at a certain time in the evening and out in

the morning.

Establish screen-free zones. Relationships suffer when people check

their phones a lot, for instance during meals, family outings, and social

occasions. In these circumstances, establish and adhere to screen time limits.

Modeling sound boundaries is important since kids can learn from parents'

constant phone use. Respect the restrictions and limitations you impose.

Findings

The researchers were able to interview a participant who is hooked to

mobile at Victorias City's Barangay 8. The 12 year old child acknowledged his

addiction to his phone. According to the subject he would spend 15-20 hours on

his mobile phone. He always checked and played with his phone as soon as he

woke up in the morning. In order to play with my phones every day, he

occasionally would forgo meals as well. Even when the phone was charging, he

would continue to use it. The individual claimed that he loved having his cell

phone around and how happy it makes him feel. The only thing he would do

every day was to be on his phone, especially since that there is no face-to-face

instruction. Even when they were together, he claimed that all his pals did was

play phone games while lounging by the side of the road, occasionally watching

offensive films and looking at inappropriate photographs. Additionally, he claims

that his parents have changed recently because they have been reprimanding

him more frequently than before. His parents used to constantly complain to him

about his behavior. He would hear the same complaints about him and his phone

every day, but he didn't really care about them because, in his opinion, they were

the ones who given him the phone and it was alright to use it whenever and

whenever he wanted.Based on the given qualitative data, these are the things

that the effect mobile game addiction among children.

1. Affects Mental Health

Addiction to video games has been identified as a mental illness. Video games

have a history of causing or exacerbating mental illnesses like depression.

Children's anxiety and tension have been related to violent video games . Long-

term use of mobile online games can also make kids more reclusive and cut

them off from their friends and peers, which can result in social anxiety disorders.

Additionally, it interferes with their sleep cycles, causing kids to feel worn out and

unrested during the school day.

2. Physical Health Takes a Hit

Your child will likely spend the majority of their time sitting still while playing video

games. Their health will suffer greatly over time as a result of this lack of physical

activity. Long hours spent staring at a bright screen might harm their eyesight,

bring on headaches, and alter their posture. And all that sitting can contribute to

obesity and weight gain, which can pave the way for a number of other health

problems.

When carpel tunnel syndrome sets in, the wrist becomes painfully inflamed,

making it difficult to write. The tendons in the thumb are excruciatingly sore from

gamer's thumb.

3. Lack of socialization

Every age has a need for relationships. Avoiding social interactions is one

of the worst repercussions of mobile game addiction. Children frequently avoid

engaging in outside play, making new friends, and having conversations with

their peers. Children cease talking to their parents, which has catastrophic,

irreversible effects.

4. Less time to focus on education

The hardest thing for a child to do is to focus on their schoolwork. Since

the youngster is familiar with the language of video games, there is disinterest in

the child. They are uninterested in stories and textbook content alone. Children

consequently receive worse grades as a result of the confused concepts.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the main problem was the lack of parental guidance and

understanding of children regarding on the effect of mobile addiction to them.

Based on the results, it appears that the youngster or study subject is unaware of

the potential harm that developing a mobile addiction could do him. He was

merely savoring his mobile phone's company and joy. The parents' efforts to

have their child behave better were insufficient. Due to some oversight or

neglect, he was persuaded by his pals to use websites that are not appropriate

for youngsters in addition to playing various games. It was necessary to handle

this issue, and both parents' and kids' involvement was crucial.

The relationship between loneliness and gaming addiction behaviors

among young people was consistent across gender and age categories. During

times when schools are closed, parental support and monitoring can prevent

children from engaging in problematic gaming activities. The  have ramifications

for both game designers and policymakers in terms of prevention and early

intervention.

Recommendation

In view of the findings and conclusion of the study the following

recommendations were advised:

Playing mobile games responsibly There is nothing wrong with

occasionally using a smartphone to play a game. The games are not only among

the best sources of amusement, but they also aid in children's mental renewal.

Kids that are skilled gamers are believed to have higher management and

decision-making skills. Parents must make sure that kids' phone usage continues

to be beneficial and healthy for their development. When utilized properly by

children, technology is a boon, but any improper use turns it against them and

results in an unhealthy addiction.

gesture for both the parents and the youngster with such a reward. If they finish

their homework or assist you with household duties, give them a reward of some

time to play their preferred mobile game. This will allow you to assign the kids

some vital tasks that they will undoubtedly finish each day while also giving them

time to play their mobile games.
