Common competencies refer to the required knowledge, skills, and attitude for an individual
working in a particular industry. As cited in the Training Regulations Framework per TESDA

particular sector. These are sector-specific but not as specialized or highly technical in nature as
the core competencies.
These common competencies are as follows together with my learning insights on each
competency:
1. Develop and update industry knowledge
This unit of competency deals with the knowledge, skills required to access, increase and
update industry knowledge. It includes seeking information on the industry and update
industry knowledge.

The tourism and hospitality industry is comprised of different sectors which includes the

promoting accommodations and other sectors to the target market. Travel agency,
tour operator, travel agent, tour coordinator, and tour guide are involved in
introducing destinations, facilities and services to prospective tourists. Linkages
and connections to airline, accommodation and other sectors are indispensable for
travel agency;
g) transportation – involves movement of people and products from one place to
another location ensuring comfort and safety. Air transportation (commercial
airplanes, helicopters, private plane, blimp) using airports (international, national,
regional, provincial, community), sea transportation (bulk carrier, container ship,
cruise ship, multi-purpose ship, ocean liner, refrigerated ship, RORO, tankers,
barge, ferries), land transportation (self-directed travel, using animals, off-road,
road transport, rail system, cable car system, underground transport) are the
