Clarifications

The figures below are used to illustrate the design philosophy for the road.

Take Figure 1 shows the longitudinal profile for Road 2. Take Chainage +050, for example, (and its
cross section in Figure 2). The Red Line represents the finished road level and the Green Line
represents the existing ground level in the longitudinal profile. As you would notice we try to follow
the natural profile of the existing ground in our alignment design.
Now, consider the cross section in Figure 2. The finished levels and existing ground levels in this cross
section corresponds to longitudinal profile in Figure 1. In this cross section, Green Line represents
the existing ground level. Also, the thick Black Line in the profile represents 50mm asphalt and
beneath this thick Black Line you have a 300mm thick sub-base fill (i.e., the space between the thick
Black Line and Red Line). So, the philosophy is to cut between the Green Line and Red Line, fill and
compact with 300mm well drained imported subgrade and pave with 50mm thick asphalt.
Still on the cross section. If the native soil does not require replacement, you MAY just need to use
the coordinates in the cross section and place a 50mm thick asphalt using the top of the drain on the
sides as reference. This can be seen in the cross section. Note the asphalt paving should be cambered
as showing in the cross section.
