Ramiz Raja the new president of the PCB, Taylor has retired

Ramiz Raja, the former captain of the national team of Pakistan, has been elected the new
president of the Pakistan Cricket Board. His mandate will last for three years, and he was elected
to this position by a unanimous decision at a meeting held yesterday. The meeting was chaired
by the PCB election commissioner Mr. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed. He was nominated for the
position of president by the legendary Imran Khan, who is the main patron of the board. Ramiz
Raja won the World Cup in 1992 and will now become the fourth gentleman to take over the
mentioned important function. Before him, the PCB was headed by Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Javed
Burki, and Ijaz Butt. After he was elected president, Raja said:

"I am thankful to all of you for electing me as the PCB Chairman and look forward to working
with you to ensure Pakistan cricket continues to thrive and grow stronger, both on and off-the-
field. "One of my key focuses will be to help introduce in the Pakistan men's cricket team the
same culture, mind-set, attitude and approach that once made Pakistan one of the most feared
cricket playing nations. As an organisation, we all need to get behind the national team and
provide them the desired assistance and support so that they can produce that brand of cricket,
which the fans also expect from them each time they step on to the field of play. "Obviously, as a
former cricketer, my other priority will be to look into the welfare of our past and present
cricketers. The game has and will always be about the cricketers and, as such, they deserve more
recognition and respect from their parent institution."

During his playing career, Raja recorded 255 appearances for the Pakistani national team in the
period from 1984 to 1997. During that period, he achieved over 8,600 runs. Less than 20 years
ago, he served as executive director of the PCB chaired by Shahryar Khan.

In addition to the fact that Raja was elected the new president of the PCB, another piece of news
should be singled out when it comes to the world of cricket. After Zimbabwe played a match
against Ireland in Belfast, Brendan Taylor officially said goodbye to playing international
cricket. His decision was known even before the meeting between the mentioned national teams.

"It's with a heavy heart that I'm announcing that tomorrow is my last game for my beloved
country," Taylor stated on a Twitter post on Sunday. "17 years of extreme highs and extreme
lows and I wouldn't change it for the world. "It's taught me to humble, to always remind myself
how lucky I was to be in the position I was in for so long. To wear the badge with pride and
leave everything on the field. My goal was to always leave the team in a better position as to
when I first arrived back in 2004, I hope I have done that."

Taylor made his debut for the mentioned African selection back in 2004. He played 34 test
matches, 204 ODI, and 45 T20Is. He is considered one of the best batsmen and best cricketers in
Zimbabwe ever. When it comes to Tests, he is the fourth-highest run-getter with 2320 runs in 34
matches played. As for the T20i, only Hamilton Masakadza and Sean Williams are better than
him. During his 204 ODI he achieved the most centuries. With 17 centuries that none of the
players from Zimbabwe managed. Taylor could have become the best batsman ever in the ODI
had he achieved 110 runs in the match against Ireland. He failed with the consideration that he
made only seven runs so Andy Flower’s record of 6786 runs remained unbroken.

When it comes to matches in 50 over format, there is a record holder from the 11th century. He
ended his career when it comes to international cricket with only 62 runs less than the figure of
10,000 runs. Of these, only the Flower brothers, Andy, who achieved more than 11,500 runs, and
Grant, who had just over 10,000 runs, achieved more runs in his career. At the 2015 World Cup,
Taylor achieved two centuries in duels with Ireland and India, making him the only Zimbabwean
player to do so. He achieved a little less than 700 runs at the world championships. Also, Taylor
is the player with the highest sixes in ODI cricket when it comes to Zimbabwe players.
