AUTOMATION AND DESIGN

5.1 AUTOMATION OF CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES

1
5.1.1 THE MATRIARCH
The Matriarch is the ship which will bring all the resources from the Earth to L5 needed to build Atlas. The
Matriarch will have top opening which will open to jigs on which the Helios bots will attach to and construct. While
the Matriarch will move in a circle around the area where the Atlas is to be constructed, The Helios bots will remain
constant and build the ship. Powered with nuclear electric propulsion, the Matriarch can travel with high specific
impulses, helping the Helios bots to work effectively with ease.

5.1.2 INITIAL SHIP CONSTRUCTION

Initial ship construction is to be done by Helios bots, these bots will work in zero gravity to construct Atlas from
scratch, these bots will attach themselves on the jigs provided on the Matriarch and start the construction. These bots
have a humanoid body with long hands to increase their reach and the work efficiency, as the Matriarch moves, the
bots will proceed to construct the ship.

5.1.3 INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION BOTS

The interior construction will be done by Lazarus bots, these bots have a modular body with a total of six legs.
These bots will lift up panels and will attach them together to form a residential home. These bots will be
responsible for constructing buildings in residential areas and other areas as required. These bots are automated but
can also be used by humans to do as required. In case the bot suffers any malfunction, Repair bots, who contain the
body design of every bot on the Atlas, will repair the bot and bot can continue to work efficiently. As mentioned
earlier, these bots have modular body, meaning once the construction process has been completed, these bots will be
turned into asteroid capturing bots. A Robotic arm will be attached on Lazarus bot’s top which will help during
construction process and when the Lazarus bots are converted into asteroid capturing bots, the robotic arm will be
replaced with fission propulsion thruster to guide the asteroid onto the Atlas.

5.1.4 IN-HOUSE CONSTRUCTION AND PLACEMENT
All the furniture and necessities in the house will be placed by Deacon bot, this bot is capable of placing various
household equipment’s and furniture which are bigger and heavier than them, these bots are provided with all the
basic equipment’s such as power drill, screwdriver, wrench, pliers, hammer and measuring tape. In case any minute
construction work is required, these bots are fit to work, additionally, if any resident requires any kind of shift to
their furniture placement, these bots will prove efficient. The bot’s hand has an interlocking mechanism which will
lock with tool that bot has to use after the work is done, the bot can unlock its hand and use another tool as required.
In case any piece of furniture is bigger or heavier than one bot can lift, multiple bots can work together for a
common goal. These bots can also be operated manually in case any specific work is to be done. In case after the
placement of all the internal furniture has been arranged, but the residents of the homes require multiple changes in
the in-house placements the people working in bot workshops can manually control the bots to suit the needs of the
residents. The residents can also be given temporary security clearance to control the bot as required in a very strict
supervision of a bot workshop worker, who will be watching the workings of the bot using in-built bot cams. The
bots will be controlled by specialized tablets that will be handed out to all the permanent residents living on the
Atlas.

5.1.5 TRANSPORTATION BOTS

The transportation bots are responsible for filling up the CASSSC’s ship in zero gravity with the refined ores from
the refineries. Using hydrogen as a base fuel for its chemical propulsion, this bot can generate a large specific
impulse (greater than 1000s) required for transporting the mineral containers to the CASSSC’s ship waiting on the

3
dock. These transportation bots will have a strong electro-magnetic base which will attach to the metallic surface on
the top of the transporting container containing ores. After the bots reach the CASSSC’s ship, the electricity
powering the magnet will be turned off and the container will be placed in the ship. These bots can also be
controlled by humans in case bots have to travel through a specific path to reach the CASSSC’s ship from the
refineries.

5.2 Facility Automation

Various security measures have been taken by keeping in mind both, the privacy of the residents as well as the
important and critical information that is being processed every day on the Atlas. Atlas will have one major data
center room, and all the servers in the data center room will be divided into two kinds of servers first half will be set
up of the Atlas which holds all the data that Atlas receives from the Earth, or from Bellevistat; or any other critical
or vital data that needs to be stored in a secure place. The other half servers for all the residents of the Atlas, for
uploading and storing all the private and personal data of the residents on the server. Additionally, this server will
also be responsible for supplying the residents of the Atlas will all information available on the internet which the
residents want to access. This way, everything available on the internet on the Earth will also be available to all the
residents of the Atlas. The residents will have access to high speed broadband internet with the help of laser
communication.

5.2.1 SECURITY AUTOMATION SYSTEMS AND PROTOCOL

5.2.1.1 PHYSICAL SECURITY MEASURES
The access to the data center room has been cut off from the normal residents of the Atlas and is only accessible by
high ranking officials, and Tech-Heads on the Atlas. To enter the data center room, one must pass the Vein-Mapping
and Iris-Mapping scan, this means that an official who has the access to the server room must be present in order for
any other person to gain access to the server room, also the security bots are stationed inside, if any person without
any official has entered the data center room, he/she will be detained immediately. The data center room is
monitored 24/7 by security bots and humans (if necessary). If the security bots find anyone unauthorized in the data
center room, all the authorized personnel will be notified immediately, followed by a live footage of the server
room, asking for human help in the matter.

5.2.1.2 VIRTUAL SECURITY MEASURES

When any authorized person uses the server, using the information based on physical scanning, all the authorized
personnel are notified. The authorized person can use the server up to maximum on 1 hour at a stretch with a
cooldown of 3 hours after the person has begun using the server for scouting purposes. These time limits are
watched on by security bots, after the time limit has reached, the bots automatically cut off the connection of the
authorized person to the server, if in 15 minutes, the person does not leave, he/she is escorted by the security bots
out of the data center room. This 1-hour limit can be exceeded if 2/3 of all authorized personnel agree to extend the
time limit, temporarily, beyond the original time limit.

5.2.2 DATA CENTER ROOM

The data center room will consist of many servers (around 50 servers) which will work around the clock to ensure
that all the data is passed on when required. As mentioned earlier, half of all the servers (25 servers), will be allotted
for the residents of the Atlas to store all their data and the other half for Atlas to store all its vital data. And out of
25 servers for Atlas, 4 servers will be used for DSOC (For Reference Check Operations)

5.2.3 SECURITY BOTS

These bots are responsible for maintaining and guarding the data center room since it is a very important
establishment in the Atlas. The security bots can apprehend a person who is responsible for breaking the rules. Also,
the security bots send live feed of data center room to all the authorized personnel which can be played at any given
instant of time, after the bot has apprehended a person, he/she can only be released by human assistance. These bots
also authorize or unauthorize the access of the server to any person.

4
5.2.4 SETTLEMENT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SYSTEMS
The Maintenance and repair of the settlement will be done by original construction bots. In case Atlas suffers any
external damage, the Matriarch will carry the Helios bots to the location of the damaged area, where the Helios bots
will work on repairing the damage after the damage has been repaired, the matriarch along with Helios bots will
return to the Atlas.
In case any damage has been suffered by the Atlas in the interior, Lazarus or Deacon bots will repair the damage
depending upon the magnitude of the damage caused. All the materials for the repairing of the damage will be
provided to the bots. Regular check-ups of all the systems in the Atlas will be done by the Deacon bots.

5.2.5 BOT WORKSHOPS

Changing the body of the modular bots and repairing the damaged bots will be done in in bot workshops. These
workshops will have Bot Repairing Systems (BRS) which will change the body of the modular bot as per the
requirements and also repair the bot in case the bot suffers any physical injury or malfunction. In total there are 80
such bot repair systems, capable of repairing all types and kinds of bots on the Atlas. The BRS can also be
controlled by humans manually in case any specific changes are to be required.

5.3 HABITABILITY AND COMMUNITY AUTOMATION

5.3.1 CASOVNIK
All the residents of Atlas would be provided with a personalized “tablet” which will also hold the information
through which all the individual residents will be identified. This also has a special inbuilt adapter which enables it
to connect it to Atlas’ server. This device also allows the residents to book a 4-seater pod when
deemed necessary. The personnel can also check the availability of seats in the Dreamliner (3.2.7).
Residents can also access internet servers and can interact with other users worldwide

5.3.2 COMMUNITY SECURITY BOT (Firefly)

● It uses tri-turret dazzler (TT) to stun the assailant.

● The non-lethal stunner blinds and disorientates the assailant for a few minutes for the
human security to arrive and arrest the assailant.
● It has two swivel-like thruster’s arms for easy mobilization.
Bottom View – Firefly
Bot
● The thruster’s arms are joined to the drone by ball joints for the movement of the thruster arms.

5
● Each arm has small thrusters on each side to direct the arms. These thrusters are
called directional thrusters to make it more agile and quick.
● It has partial human input, to identify the assailant and partial A.I. input, for
responding and targeting.
● An Omni-camera is attached to the center for the operator to navigate and identify
the criminal.
● The main motto is to incapacitate the attacker, react quickly and capture the
attacker without harming.

5.3.3 FIRE MITIGATION (E.P.I.C –
Bot
Emergency Pyro Immediate Control)

● The body is made up of aerogel from the outside and

carbon fire from the inside.
● It has 4 propellers instead of thrusters, so it does not
reignite the flame.
● It has 2 anti-flame throwers with a foam containment
silo equipped on the top to be efficient in all types of
fire (A, B, C, E) except class D.
● There is also an extra targeting foam grenade
launcher on the bottom to be efficient in all types of fire (A, B, C, D, E). TOP VIEW –
● It is semi-automated. It detects fire and uses foam guns to control the fire. E.P.I.C Bot
When it gets the ‘residents evacuated’ green flag from the community bots,
it uses the foam grenades to extinguish the fire.
● The aerogel body prevents it from burning and the extra covering of
graphene prevents it from short-circuiting the inner circuits.
● The camera will be protected by palladium-based glass.
● The human interface will fire the foam guns, the grenade launcher and SIDE VIEW – E.P.I.C
control the drone. The targeting will be done by automated heat signature Bot Bot
recognition system installed in the bot.

5.3.4 COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

Communication between earth and Atlas through laser communication. For local communication on Atlas, wireless
access points have been installed at every 500m throughout the residential area. These are connected to the central
servers through fiber optic cables. Long range radio transmitters at each access point provide network access to
residents.

5.3.5 COMMUNITY BOTS

● They have a variety of functions: to please the residents physically, mentally and spiritually. Its bulky body
is surprisingly agile, to reach and assist residents in distress.
● It delivers food to residents on Atlas; selected from a wide range of foods from the restaurants.
● It has a family friendly screen-face amalgamation which functions as a GUI to help access the wide range
of features in the community bot.
● For the technically inclined: it has 6 appendages: 4 dorsal and 2 axials. It has a retractable hemispherical
lower body with 0.7m length and 0.5m width of the upper body a height 0.8m which extends to reveal its
final evolution; increasing its height and giving it legs. The purpose of this is to do high jobs like fixing
ceiling objects, it works on graphene based super-capacitors.
● It will be converted from the blue-collar Deacon bots, which assist in construction of the Atlas.

6
● It also helps evacuating residents of Atlas in case of any emergencies like fire and send green flags to the
EPIC bots and security bots to proceed in further procedures.
● It can also help in the refurbishing of the furniture.

5.3.6 PRODUCTIVITY IN WORKSPACE

All the data and the information stored in the working computers in the work areas, will be automatically uploaded
to the Atlas’ server to prevent any kind of accidental data loss. Additionally, if any sector requires a private server to
store and work its data separately from other servers, that sector will have its own personal business server. All the
files on all the computers will be continuously synced to keep all the computers updated will all the changes in the
documents. Files sharing between computers do not require any kind of hardware accessories, the files to be shared
will first be compressed using the new G-Bartoli compression algorithm and sent as a stream of binary data using
peer-to-peer communication protocols to reduce the overhead on the servers. The data is synced periodically to
ensure integrity of data. Hashes of each file are stored in one server to check for changes in the data and/or its
metadata.

5.3.7 NANOBOTS FOR HEALTH-CARE SERVICES

The residents of the Atlas will be injected with liquid containing Nanobots, the Nanobots will stay in the body of the
Residents and will eradicate any acute diseases, and if the person has any kind of chronic diseases, it will be
reported to the doctors present on the Atlas and frequent full body check-up results will be sent to the assigned
doctor(s). Full body check-ups will also be sent to the doctors to review, if any resident shows any kind of
abnormality in the scans, their scan will be tagged with emergency request. So that doctors of the Atlas can review
him/her report as early as possible.

5.4 AUTOMATION FOR ASTROID MINING

7
5.4.1 ASTEROID CAPTURING BOTS
As mentioned earlier Lazarus bots will be converted into asteroid capturing bots. It takes a couple of minutes to
change a construction bot to an asteroid capturing bot, the modification being, addition of a nuclear fission
propulsion thruster in the place of the robotic arm as mentioned earlier. The Fission thrusters follows the mechanism
of a rotating fuel reactor, giving the bot a powerful thrust to travel at a high impulse rate (greater than 100,000 ns)
required to slow, or even stop an asteroid. These bots also have 3 pairs of specialized legs (3 on either side), which
will help the bots to latch on the asteroid helping them to maneuver the asteroid easily. These bots, with latch on to
the asteroid and thrust in the opposite spin direction to that of the asteroid. Eventually these bots will secure the
asteroid and carry it on to the harvesting site on the Atlas, where the asteroid will be passed on to the mining bots for

mineral extraction.
.

5.4.2 MODIFIED LAZARUS BOT FOR ASTEROID MINING

As mentioned earlier Lazarus bot will be converted to suit the needs of asteroid mining. For bigger, solid, heavier
asteroids, Lazarus bot will be equipped with a fission thruster which would enable the bot to slow down the asteroid,
effectively shifting its current orbital and bring the asteroid back to Atlas for further refining. For smaller and lighter
asteroid Lazarus bot would have an ionic thruster to help the bot to lead the asteroid back to Atlas. Doing so will
enable a judicious use of available resources making the process 45% efficient. For bigger solid and semi-solid
asteroids LAZARAUS BOTS will be equipped with fission thrusters and for smaller asteroids including bigger
chunks of rubble asteroids LAZARUS BOTS with ionic thrusters will be used making the mining process feasible

5.4.3 ASTEROID MINING BOTS – RUBBLE

These bots will have in-built infrared sensors, which will scan all the rubble pieces for sudden density change,
signaling presence of mineral in the rubble. These bots will sort out all the rubble particles containing minerals and
send them to the refineries and throw all the unused/waste materials out into space.

5.4.4 ASTEROID MINING BOTS – SEMI-SOLID

Helios bot after the process of construction would be converted into the bots responsible for extracting water crystals
from semi solid asteroids, these bots would be equipped with carrying bags with internal coating of hydrophobic
material to prevent any mishaps thus preventing any situation rendering the bag unusable. Further solid minerals
would be refined by bots mentioned in 5.4.2. The water crystals along with solid minerals would be send to
refineries for further purification.

5.4.5 ASTEROID MINING BOTS – SOLID

8
The working of this bots is similar to the one mentioned in section 5.4.2, these bots will have inbuilt infrared sensors
that will help the bots to know the density of the asteroid at different points. After the bots will map out all the
variance in density, the bot will know exactly where the ore is in the asteroid due to sudden change in the density of
the mass in the asteroid due to presence of a mineral. The bot will drill its way to the ore, mine out the ore, and send
it to refineries, where it will be further purified. After all the ore has been collected, the asteroid will again be
released into the space

5.4.6 CAPTURING NET

Because Lazarus Bot is not capable of bringing the smaller debris back to Atlas for refining, and since the smaller
debris pose a problem, the capturing net, used along with
Kronos bot (mentioned in 5.4.6) is to collect the small debris
and bring it back to Atlas. Each strand of the net consists of an
outer covering of Carbon Fiber protecting Carbon NanoTubes
which conceals a copper wire that helps to transport electricity
throughout the system, that triggers the electromagnetic
properties which holds the net together to prevent the smaller
debris from escaping. Each strand of the net is held together by
central nodes on which the electromagnetic properties exert their force. The net is controlled by Kronos bot which
brings the smaller debris back to Atlas.

5.4.7 KRONOS BOT

The Kronos bot will attach itself to the nodes at the end of the net which are powered by electromagnets. It can
attach itself up to 4 nodes at a time to gain a better holding on the net. It is also equipped with Ionic thruster, which
can pivot up to 45 degrees in any direction from its normal position so that it can bring back the smaller debris using
the net.

5.4.8 DUST MITIGATION

The mining bots will have an umbrella like projection while drilling so that the dust does not leave the area around
the bot. All the dust would either settle back on the asteroid or on the bot. The bot, after mining would be exposed to
high pressure Hydrogen gas to blow away the dust collected on the bots. Occasionally, bots would also be
dismantled and given a thorough cleaning at the bot repair center incase any dust enters the internal system of the
bots.

5.5 ORE EXTRACTION, REFINING AND TRANSPOTATION

The Transportation bots will take the refined minerals from the refineries and fill up the CASSSC’s ship while
travelling in zero gravity conditions. The CASSSC’s ship will have front foldable doors, opening the whole front
section of the ship to ensure easy loading and unloading of the materials by the transportation bots. The dimensions
of the CASSSC’s ship are 30 ft. (9.144 m) long & nearly 15 ft. (4.572m) cross sections allowing 35,000 pounds
(15,876 kg) of contents. The CASSSC’s ship is equipped with 2 Annular Ion Engine (AIE) thrusters on either side,
giving the ship a powerful thrust to travel at a high impulse rate (<= 10,000s) & attain the speed necessary to

catapult and escape the gravitational pull of the Earth while travelling from Atlas (on L5) to Bellevistat (on L4).
