beginning of
the fall of
the berlin
wall.
The fall of the Berlin Wall is known as the culmination of a series of events that began between
November 6 and 7 and ended on November 9, 1989 with the opening of the borders between the
Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the Republic of Germany. German Democratic Republic (GDR),
as well as with the destruction of part of the wall that divided the city of Berlin.

Since 1961, the city of Berlin was divided into two sectors by a wall that separated the sector under
the control of the FRG, with a capitalist orientation, from the one belonging to the GDR, a communist
government associated with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).

This wall had been built in a few days from August 1961 by the GDR government to prevent the
continuous migration of its population to the western sector of the city, which belonged to the FRG.
For 28 years, it separated the two sectors of the city, preventing contact between its inhabitants.

The destruction of the wall by the citizens themselves during the night of November 9 is considered a
symbol of the end of an era and the reunification of Germany.
The conference was
broadcast live and thousands
of East Germans rushed to
the border posts and passed
through them in front of
guards who did not dare to
shoot. On the other side,
West Germans received them
in a party atmosphere.

During the night of November

9-10, the Berliners
themselves began to destroy
the wall and a crowd crossed
into the western sector.
Causes of the
fall of the
Berlin Wall
The fall of the wall was motivated by the opening of the borders between
Austria and Hungary in May 1989, since more and more Germans traveled
to Hungary to request asylum in the dierent embassies of the German
Federal Republic. This fact led to huge demonstrations in Alexanderplatz
that led to the government of the GDR stating on November 9, 1989 that
passage to the west was allowed.

That same day, thousands of people crowded the checkpoints to cross to

the other side and nobody could stop them, so that a mass exodus took
place.

The next day, the first breaches in the wall were opened and the
countdown to the end of his days began.

Once released, families and friends were able to see each other again
after 28 years of forced separation.
end of the fall of
the berlin wall
At the end of World War II, after the division of Germany, Berlin
was also divided into four occupation sectors: Soviet,
American, French and English. The bad relations between the
communists and the allies grew to the point where two
currencies emerged, two political ideals.

The construction of the wall

The battered Soviet economy and flourishing West Berlin
meant that until 1961 almost 3 million people left East
Germany behind to enter capitalism.

The next morning, a temporary 155-kilometre barbed wire had

been put up separating the two parts of Berlin. The means of
transport were interrupted and none could cross from one
part to another.
The Berlin Wall ended up becoming a concrete wall between
3.5 and 4 meters high, with an interior made of steel cables to
increase its resistance. At the top they placed a hemispherical
surface so that no one could grab onto it.

Accompanying the wall, the so-called "death strip" was

created, made up of a moat, a barbed wire fence, a road along
which military vehicles constantly circulated, alarm systems,
automatic weapons, watchtowers and patrols accompanied
by dogs 24 hours a day. hours of the day.
Between 1961 and 1989 more than 5,000 people tried to cross the Berlin Wall and
more than 3,000 were arrested. Around 100 people died in the attempt.
The fall of the wall was motivated by the opening of the borders between Austria
and Hungary in May 1989, since more and more Germans traveled to Hungary to
request asylum in the different embassies of the German Federal Republic. This fact
led to huge demonstrations, on November 9, 1989, the GDR government stated that
the passage to the west was allowed.

That same day, thousands of people crowded the checkpoints to cross to the other
side and nobody could stop them, so that a mass exodus took place.

The next day, the first breaches in the wall were opened and the countdown to the
