Organizational Behavior Session-13

Session in brief:
This session was based on the analysis of the personality test. It revolved around how our
personality structure is different from others and it comprises of ID, ego, and super-ego.
Super-ego is the extreme which we tend to bring in us. Human beings without super ego are
very dangerous. The other is super-ordinate goals.

Learnings:
 Personality test measures the unique characteristics that an individual has,i.e., what you have
different from others
 For Example: American if they don’t want money, then they don’t earn money. In England, if
people have earned some money, then they try to spend by taking a 1-2 year break. While
Indian try to save money for future and their children.
 Structure of personality (Structural theory) comprises of three elements: ID (Hunger, rage
and sex ) , EGO(our behaviour or sense of self), SUPER-EGO(Comprises of superordinary
goals)
 We are always concerned about individual safety and well-being and always want to satisfy
id desires keeping in mind the consequences.
 All of us are surely born as an animal and when we are 4 years of age, typically the child
behaviour develops. If you give 4-year-old 10 chocolates, maybe they will give 1-2
chocolates to the other kids. But if you give 2-year-old, they will keep it to themselves.
 Sex is supposed to be a procreation and a survival mechanism.
 When we are not able to follow super-ego, it results in unconscious feeling of guilt. We then
use defense mechanisms when there is conflict of the two
 Super ordinate goals are the goals which don’t benefit you but concerns the whole society.
 The stronger super-ego you have-the more of human being you are other we would be animal
 Complex is the desire for the desire for the exclusive love of the mother by the boy and father
by the girl. First occurs around the age of 5-6 yrs
 Absence or weakness of either parent, especially the same-sex parent can lead to
homosexuality- Failure to resolve Oedipius(boys) or Electra complexes(girls).

Action Plan:
There should be adequate lesson to our children in future about the development of super ego
and also the sexual orientation. We need to make sure that our heir doesn’t become animals
but humans. The same should be followed by our parents for the greater good for us in future.
These will be eventually get supresses by family and by culture which leads to the formation
of super-ego.
