Today I
will tell you abou TB Silalahi.
Who doesn’t know TB Silalahi? A man whose full name is Tiopan Bernhard
Silalahi. He Was born in Pematang Siantar on April the 17,1938. His father was a
private driver for a Dutch.At that time the job as a private driver was quite seen
because of the sizable (saislable) salary, while his mother is a housewife.
Initially their family’s condition was fine. One day, his father joined a soccer match
in Porsea, But his father fell ill when returning from the match. ”Uhuk,uhuk,uhuk,
my chest hurts. Uhuk, uhuk, Blood?”screamed his father while in pain. People said
that TB’s father was poisoned by his opponent’s (opponens) supporters. A fter
TB’s father fell ill, their condition began deteriorate(detireoret). TB’s father’s
medical expenses are very expensive. That made TB’s Mother’ s had to sell
furniture at their home and start working as a stone breaker for the Japanese
Government.”I have to sell furniture at this house for my husband’s medical
expenses”said his mother. After his father prolonged illness(prolong), his father
finally died. Before TB’s father died, his father wanted to be blessed(blest) by the
priest(prist) for seeing the sign. “uhuk..uhukk.Honey, please call the priest(prist),
there is already an angel who will pick me up” begged his TB’s father to TB’
mother before he died. After that his father died. During his father’s funeral, TB
instead smiled and was amused by his mother’s tears. At that time TB
thought(tot) his father was only gone for a while.”(smiled).hmmmmm… it’s so
funny, why are they crying over my father who left for a short time” said TB in his
heart.
3 days after the death of TB’s father, TB’s mother gave birth to her youngest
sister. After a week, TB began to realize that her father was gone forever.” God!!!
Why did you call my father? Why not just someone else’s father?”Tears TB, during
a pilgrimage(pilgrimach) buried (beridd)his father.
TB increasingly(inkrisingly) suffering, he must be independent because of the
death of his father. Every day TB must herd the buffalo to the hill. When tending
buffalo he always felt hungry because the lack food in his house. “Ohwwww…..i
am very hungry!(while looking around)Grasshooper!(catch and eat)owh… there’s
harimonting”
In 1948, the Balige city recognized(reketnais) ice cubes, Not like now that every
where there are ice cubes. At that time Tb worked with a cendol ice seller. TB was
taught(tauch) how to make cendol and how to sell it.”You have to put all the
ingredients in and shout(syautt) to sell it!” Said the seller. TB started selling “
Cendol! Cendol! Want a cendol, sir?” TB shouted(syauteed). The cendol seller
considered (konsidered)TB a very honest child, so he share more income for
TB.”That your income, kid! Stay honest!”said the seller while dividing income.
TB didn’t want to bother her mother so he worked as a car washer and cigarette
paper stamp. From his hard work he was able to buy new clothes(klouts). Many
jobs made him independent, Until he was in high scholl, he didn’t ashamed
(eshame) to trade.
After TB graduated from high scholl, he continued(kontinyuedd) his education at
Bandung institute of technologhy majoring in architecture.Because the economic
situation, TB wanted to get out from Bandung institute of technologhy , but he
had ask permission from his mother first.”Maam, may I leave Bandung institute
Techonology and enter military academy?ask TB to his mom. And then TB’s mom
said” why son? I will fight for your tuition(tuisyen), no problem!But, TB continues
to force”No mom!, idont want to incriminate you, being a soldier is my goal
childhood! Answered TB. And finally, his mother allowed him to enter military
academy.
After several years of service, TB was appointed as Minister of administrative
Reform by President Soehartoe, and his rank was promoted(promoted) go the
position as Liutenant(lootenant) General.Now he is on the board of supervisors of
the high school, the Soposurung Foundation.TB said”Only with education can
change fate”
From childhood TB is a persistent, independent, and honest child. Not every one
can get through that suffering. But we know, because of TB’s determination and
hard work, finally he can become a successful person.
