The Vietcong
The Vietcong trained the women to become nurses and they also
trained women to the use of military weapons such as guns and that
aided them in fighting against the Americans. Men were trained in the were eventually recruited in the South, but they were
use of weapons and guerilla warfare, they were also trained to become
spies. Elderly men were also trained similarly to young men, but there
were very few Elderly soldiers than young men.
Children as young as 13 and 14 would get involved in the war and were infiltrated South Vietnam. The Vietcong also consisted
trained to learn guerilla warfare tactics and killing both Americans and of non-communist as their main objectives were the
South Vietnamese soldiers, but some of them were trained to be
informants, while other were involved in other war-related activities
such as making hats for the soldiers or constructing strategic roads to
reach the both or barricades, etc.

In the Vietnam War (known in Vietnam as the
American War) , the Viet Cong were South
Vietnamese supporters of the communist National
Liberation Front in South Vietnam. They are allies
with North Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh's forces, who
want to unite Vietnam and build a unified communist
state. Though it began as a combination of several
groups opposed to President Diem's administration in
the mid-1950s, the Viet Cong became the armed
branch of the National Liberation Front in 1960. (NLF).
After the fall of the French colonial forces at Dien Bien
Phu, the Viet Cong arose, prompting the United States
to become increasingly involved in Vietnam. Fearing
that Vietnam might turn communist, like China had
in 1949, and that the infection would spread to
surrounding countries, the US sent an increasing
number of "military advisors" into the fight, followed
by hundreds of thousands of US troops in the late
1960s and 1970s.The great majority of the Viet Cong
supplied with weapons, guidance, and reinforcements
by North Vietnamese Army soldiers who had
reunification of Vietnam that most citizens wanted,
and that helped increase the Vietcong members. As
many of the Vietcong members were volunteers they
were given military training by Hanoi.

The Viet Cong fought a guerrilla war of ambush, terrorism,
and sabotage for the most part, relying on tiny troops to
keep control of the countryside while leaving the big
population centers to the government. They used simple
tactics that would frustrate the Americans such as
withdrawing when the enemy struck, plundering enemy
camps, booby traps, attacking the enemy when exhausted,
and chasing the enemy when they retreated. The Vietcong
made certain that they chose conflicts that they could win.
Weapons and daggers, as well as explosives were seized
from the Americans, and were used to ambush patrols.
They also used pointed bamboo sticks, mines, grenades, and
artillery shells to make booby traps. The Vietcong had no
uniform and this made it hard for the U.S soldiers to find
them. They had access to tunnels that allowed them to flee
into the jungle. They worked in small cells so that if they
were caught, they couldn't be tortured for information
about others.

Why were the
Vietcong fighting
against the U.S?
The Vietcong were fighting the U.S because
they entered Vietnam with the intention of
preventing a communist takeover of the whole
region. They also wanted to separate the south
of Vietnam completely from the communist
North, while the Vietcong wanted to unify
Vietnam. Other motives the Vietcong had were
that they see themselves primarily as
Vietnamese patriots, and this was part of a
larger war to free Vietnam from foreign
dominance, in which the Americans had taken
the position of the French. Despite focusing on
nationalism, their Communist brainwashing
claims that the revolution will eliminate the
exploitative classes, resulting in economic
equality and social justice.

The Vietcong and their
advantage
The Vietcong had a greater advantage than
the American forces; the majority of the
battle in Vietnam took place in the jungles.
A large portion of the Viet Cong were
peasants recruited from nearby villages or
cities. As they had lived in these locations
before the war, they had a superior
understanding of the landscape, which
they used to set plant traps and prepare
ambushes. In addition the Viet Minh
began tunneling extensively during the
French era of the Vietnam War. As during
the American phase, many areas had
extensive tunnel networks. Farmers in the
area were supposed to construct 1 meter of
tunnel per day. There were enormous
networks of tunnels with underground
sleeping quarters, kitchens, workshops, and
many false entrances leading to traps in
regions where the soil was suitable.
The Americans constructed a base for the
25th infantry division without realizing
that there were tunnels beneath it, which
caused them many losses.

Will the U.S win

against the
Vietcong?
Even though the United States of America have sent
a technologically advanced, superior fighting source
from the United States military, it is most likely that
the U.S will lose this war against the Vietcong. The
U.S military wasn’t having success fighting against
the Vietcong Although the Vietcong were ultimately
beaten back by the US Army, and the offensive
demonstrated to the Americans that despite all of
the men, bombs, and money spent in Vietnam, they
were making no headway against the Vietcong or
communism. There are many reasons to why the
U.S troops weren’t having success, one of them is
that the Vietcong had the support of peasants while
the U.S didn’t. The Vietcong members knew the land
more, were more used to it than the amer troops and
had a hidden system of tunnels and set traps to the
American soldiers. In Addition the American
soldiers' military tactics were unpopular and brutal
which turned the Vietnamese people against.
Finally the American soldiers suffered immense
losses because of the Vietcong's unexpected military
tactics, and didn’t get much support while the
Vietcong had the peasants, China, and the USSR
support.
