1. My bomb Shelter:
The Materials I would use to build my bomb shelter, would be
sand, wood planks, steel reinforced concrete, cement, steel bars
and gravel. And of course I would need other materials such as
Shovels, picks, hammers, bulbs, etc. With such materials such as
concrete I would be able to build a safe bomb shelter since
concrete offers solid protection against blast. I will also make
sure that there is Air ventilation, emergency exist, food, plenty
of water, First Aid kit, Warm clothes, comfortable place to
lay,a kitchen, tables, even a toilet, and plenty of available
activities like board games and other activities that we could
do, in order to get distracted from the bomb attack. In
conclusion my bomb shelter would be a a cozy place and safe
place with plenty of supplies that would keep us alive for even
several days.
2. Some things that I will bring with me to my bomb shelter:
In the case there is a bomb attack, there would be somethings
that wouldn’t be in my cozy and perfect bomb shelter which you
could also consider as a mini house. Anyways so the things that
I would bring with me to the bomb shelter are; firstly my phone
of course since I would need my phone to communicate with other
family members and tell them that I am safe or ask where they
are, etc. The second thing I would bring with me would be my
Quran since it is the holy book of god so I would like to keep
it with me in order to feel more protected. Lastly but not least
I will have to bring the pet birds with me, I can’t afford
letting them die.
3. What is the German Code Breaking machine(Enigma) and Radar?
The Enigma machine was a cipher device used by Nazi Germany’s
military command to encode messages in WW2 and before WW2. The
Enigma machine helped citizens to survive and the British forces
to win by code breaking the messages, Alan Turing was the code
breaker of Enigma he was able to save millions of lives by
breaking the messages of the Germans and get information about
when or where the German will strike or their plan and be able
to counter/stop it. The Radar is a detection system that uses
radio waves to determine the distance, angle or velocity of
objects, and can be used to detect ships , aircraft, guided
missiles, etc. The Radar was able to help the allies and the
citizens by picking up incoming enemy aircraft which gave
Britain early warnings of the Germans attacks, which allowed the
citizens to hide in advance and the British troops to prepare in
advance for their attacks.
4. First- Hand account of what it is like to live in a British city during WW2:
In 1940, me and my family lived in the city of London, during
that time the city of London was getting attacked by the Germans
aircrafts. So We had to hide in bomb shelters on every air raid,
and of the many times we had to escape to the shelter, there was
one uniquenight that we liked to talk about. It was late at
night, and I was getting ready for bed, but suddenly I heard a
”Boom” sound along with my mom’s scream. I rushed down the
stairs just to see the horrific sight that my mom was looking
at. It seemed that a small bomb hit our neighbours house and
demolished part of their house and our house. My mom was
paralysed still in shock by what just happen as she was near the
scene at the time of the attack, but I kept hearing sounds of
more bombs attacks so we had to get out of here. I called out to
mom to bring her back to her senses, and when she finally came
back she asked me if my siblings and dad were able to escape to
the shelter. I shook my shoulders as I honestly had no idea, and
the next thing we did was running as fast as we could upstairs
to their bedrooms, and to our suprise they were all soundly
asleep in their respective rooms even dad, while the city was
being attacked by bombs. At that time we were scared of what was
happening so all we could think of was waking them and escaping
to safety, but when I think about it now, I think it was quite a
funny situation.
