When I read some of the lines, I feel the guilt of taking my father for granted in his living days.

"All I wanted was to be the person for you to rest on, to trust to lead you home again" (Yang 92).

The line made me remember a man who guaranteed happiness and protection to his family. I did

not know his value till then. I started realizing what I was about to lose. Instead of giving my

father peace in those days, and I caused him grief. The thoughts of his life reverberate in my

mind whenever I read the selected lines. After his death, I reflected on his life, the good things he

performed for others, and the awards he received, and I realized I wished I could have been this

person for him. I found the story of Shong to be exciting and emotional, and it saddens me that

such an innocent soul is heartbroken horrible people. I loved how the boy attempted to pick up

the rock in vain that rolled and broke the neighbor's fence and comforted his younger brothers.

"My little brothers, stop crying. Your big brother is here. I know you two are too young to know

the speed and strength of a boulder rolling. Hush now. Little boys cannot do the work of grown

men. There is no reason to cry. I will mend the fence" (Yang 66). it is the love my kids will

never miss. I know they felt comforted a lot.

My love for this book grew as I loved the different perspectives with different songs at the

beginning of the track. I loved the author's part about how her mother had miscarriages though I

was less idealistic about how the event occurred. After all of Chue's struggles and tears, she

finally had to say enough was enough since it was becoming painful for her. I had no notion

they'd have more kids until Bee's mother died, and they had a boy soon after. I was overjoyed for

them and thought it was a cosmic sign meant to lighten their days. This book has taken me on a

unique emotional roller coaster. I am delighted with this book and see it as good for

recommendation to my friends.
