1.0 Introduction

Food is one of the necessities that a person needs to live. The type of food that is prepared in a
certain place can tell the history, climate and the way of life, which is the culture of that place.
Therefore, for our performance, we will be going to explore the culture of Malaysia in the
direction of varieties of food.

2.0 Performance Objective

Culture is the way of life. The way we greet, behave, and speak are some examples of a
culture. Hence, the culture of a place serves as a reflection of the identity of a community. It
provides a belongingness to a community, and when a person feels that they are a part of the
community, they have the stability to grow and be nurtured. In Malaysia, we have many
different races, coming from different beliefs and thinking. However, the way that these
different races interact with each other is one of the visible demonstrations of culture. The
richness of varieties of food in Malaysia due to the different races is the objective that our
team wants to explore. Food can be an uniting factor that brings people together because we
have to eat to live. Therefore, understanding different cultures by their food and respecting
that culture is very important to us as part of the community of Malaysia.

6.0 Aristotle element

Being a Malaysian used to living in a multicultural environment, sometimes Malaysians could


not find out the special things about Malaysia. There are a wide variety of cuisines which are
not promoted throughout Malaysia and some people do not realize the beauty of Malaysia’s
cuisine. Hence, cuisine in different cultures in Malaysia will be highlighted. This is to
reiterate the special and amazing elements, which is the cuisine in Malaysia.

7.0 Theme

Appreciating the harmony, peace and unity in Malaysia which has created different cultures’
cuisines is the main theme of the Food Vlog. Malaysia is a multiracial and multicultural
country where all Malaysians are living together in harmony and peace. As populations with
different cultures live together, Malaysians tend to enjoy different cultural foods. As food can
link everyone together, sharing the food, and enjoying each other cuisine is one of the most
unique part in Malaysia. The beauty of Malaysians who love each other's cuisines will be
emphasized. Hence, a food vlog will be taken to introduce the cuisine in each culture in
Malaysia.

8.0 Characters

Emcee

A person who gives opening remarks to introduce this food vlog. Besides, an introduction will
be given for every restaurant to give audiences a brief introduction about the cuisine.

Interviewer

Before visiting the restaurant, the background of the restaurant will be studied. Some
questions related to the cuisine will be prepared. On the day of visiting the restaurant, the
interviewer will ask the owner, staff and customer some questions related to the cuisine.
Interviewer needs to give audiences a deeper understanding about the cuisine.

Tasters

For every cuisine, tasters are going to try on each food. After that, the tasters will introduce
each dish about the taste and texture of food. Besides, tasters can express their experience
visiting the restaurant related to the environment and people in the restaurant.

Food : Cendol

Location : Rojak (Pasement) & Cendol Penang

Detail : Cendol comes in various forms but is basically a bowl or glass of shaved ice,
coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, and strands of grass green jelly made from rice flour. A
variety of other toppings can be added, depending on how adventurous you are feeling.

Food : Penang Asam Laksa

Location : Secret Recipe (Sungai Long Branch)

Detail : Penang Asam Laksa can be described as a dish with sweet, sour and spicy
flavours. The dish contains white rice noodles, shredded fish (usually mackerel), sliced
pineapples, cucumber, onions, red chillies, lettuce, mint leaves steeped within the tamarind-
flavoured soup base.

Food : Char Kuey Teow

Location : Sungai Long Night Market (Pasar Malam), opens every Tuesday night

Detail : Char Kuey Teow is a significant Chinese dish of flat rice noodles or a mix of
flat rice noodles and yellow noodles that are stir-fried in soy sauce with bean sprouts, eggs
and most importantly, garlic. This dish is mostly found to be cooked by Chinese hawkers but
other cultures have their own variants of the dish and it is quite popular among them too. The
magic of the dish lies in the wok, which brings out the aroma or “Wok Hei” of the noodles
when frying at high heat.Exposition:

12.0 Summary

This vlog is to share our culture by sharing a meal.When we share a meal, we share our
tradition, opening their eyes to part of our culture they may not have known about it before.
Something as simple as hosting a vlog with a group of people to visit different food outlets is
to enjoy different cuisines as well as to relieve stress from either studying or working
together. This could be the first step in more people realizing that we are all more alike than
different.
People also connect to their cultural or ethnic group through food patterns. Food is
often used as a means of retaining their cultural identity. People from different cultural
backgrounds eats different foods. In religion, food is one of the most important parts of
religious commandments, hence food is prepared in different ways. The meaning of food is an
exploration of culture through food. What we consume, how we require it, who prepares it,
who’s at the table, and who eats first is a form of communication that is, it has a rich cultural
base. Beyond merely nourishing the body, what we eat and with whom we eat can inspire and
strengthen the bonds between individuals, communities and even countries. This negotiates
our identities, culture and environments. Food is seen more than just a means of survival.
Thus, at the end of the vlog one will be connected to each other with different culture
backgrounds, different religion and identity through a simple meal together.

Knowing the culture is influenced by food through various ways such as tradition, religion
and family. As the world becomes more globalised, it is easier to access cuisines from
different cultures.Thus, we embrace our heritage through our culture’s food but we should
also become more informed about other cultures by trying their foods. It’s important to
remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to
those who prepare it. Food is a portal into culture, and it should be treated as such.
