mentioned the Korean War to anybody under the age of 50. watch their eyes glaze
over. At best, they'll remember being forced to watch mash with their parents
rolling their eyes at the sometimes over the top sentimentality of Alan Alda and
for those who are actually there, however, it almost immediately evokes the memory
of greens at Pusan Inchon Chosun reservoir where the Punchbowl older Americans
everywhere remember the Marine Corps combat readiness, courage, and, and military
skills that were largely responsible for the success of these early operations from
1953 1951. But not as dramatic or well known are the important accomplishments of
the Marines during the latter part of the Korean War. In March of 1952 first Marine
Division redeployed from the east central front to West Korea. This new sector
nearly 35 miles in length, anchored the far western end device and was one of the
most critical of the entire Eighth Army line. Here the Marines block the enemy's
goal of penetrating to Seoul, the South Korean Capitol, Northwest marine main line
of resistance, less than five miles distance play Penn moons on site of the
sporadic news negotiations. Defensive their strategic area exposed Marines to
continuous and deadly communism probes and limited objective attacks. These bitter
and costly contests for key outpost for such names as Bunker Hill, the hook that
Nevada's including Carson Reno in Vegas, and of course Boulder City, underground
Marines supported by first marine aircraft wing squadrons. Fighting continued until
the last day of the war, July 27 1953. The Korean War marked the first real test of
free world solidarity in the face of communist force in repulsing this attempted
communist aggressive, the United Nations led by the United States served notice
that it will not hesitate to aid those nations whose freedom and independence were
under attack. As events have subsequently proven, holding the line against
communist encroachment is a battle whose end is not yet in sight. And me aggression
may explode brazenly on the world scene with an overt act of invasion, as it did in
Korea in June 1950. Or it may take the form of a murderous guerrilla war as it did
more recently for over a decade in Vietnam. Whatever guys, the enemy of the United
States chooses, wherever he or she draws his or her battle line, he or she will
find the Marines with her age old answer. today. As in Korean era, the Marine Corps
is in full readiness and in spite of the smarmy antics of Gomer pile, rest assured
they're prepared to apply the cutting edge against any threat to American Security.
