Fruits or Vegetables?
Have the class divided into 4-5 groups/pairs (depending on the class size). Each group will receive a set
of cards with pictures of different types of fruits and vegetables, and a table with separate columns for
fruits and vegetables. Students will work with their groups to complete the name of fruits and vegetables
on each card (Cloze exercise) and then stick the cards to the correct category column. The groups receive
the scores according to their correct answers and the time completing the task. The group with the highest
score wins the activity and receive some encouraging award.
Teacher goes around to observe and take note of commonly made mistakes to correct together with the
class at the end of the activity.
Substitution: if there are available devices, students can complete the activity with the online interactive.

Independent Practice (5 mins)  R  W  L  S

Each student receives a handout with the table of I like/don’t like (previous guided practice) with the
missing names of the vegetables. Students will fill complete the table and will go around to ask other
students about their favorite vegetables, using the learned expressions, and write their names in the
corresponding columns of like/don’t like for each vegetable name.

Assessment (7 mins)  R  W  L ❑ S
Mini-Quiz: Students complete an MCQ quiz on new vocabulary and categorization to reinforce the
lesson’s objectives. Teacher collects students’ work for grading, then brings the class back together and
discusses any problems students may have. Recap the key takeaways of the lesson.
In the next class, give feedback and comments on students’ assessment quiz. Briefly go through the items
students have problems with collectively and if necessary, individually.
