Instructions: Answer any five questions including Q. No. 1. The figures in right
hand margin indicate full marks. Candidates are required to give answers of
all parts of a question at one place only in their own words.

Q.1 a) State the advantages of concealed conduit wiring over other types [1]
of wiring?
b) What is the difference between an inductor and a capacitor? [1]
c) Define the time constant in R-L series circuit. [1]
d) The equation of an alternating current is given by I = (5 + 10 sin [1]
314t) A, Find the RMS value.

Q.2 a) Write the disadvantages of Thermal Power Plant. [2]

b) Draw the single line diagram of electric supply system. [2]

Q.3 a) Find the current in the 5 Ω resistance as shown in the Figure 1 [2]
by using any method.

b) A 10 μF capacitor is charged to 100V D C. It is then discharged [2]
through a resistor of R Ω for the 20 second, when the potential
difference across the capacitor is 50 V. Calculate the value of R.

Q.4 a) An ac voltage V = 150 + j 180 is applied across an impedance and [2]

the current flowing is found to be I = 5 – j4. Determine (i) Power
factor (ii) Power consumed.
b) Prove that average power for any AC symmetric wave over whole [2]
cycle is always zero.
Q.5 a) Find the current flowing through the 15 Ω resistance using the [2]
Thevenin’s Theorem as shown in the Figure 2.

b) State and explain Superposition Theorem. [2]

Q.6 a) A circuit consists of a pure resistance and a coil in series. The [2]
power dissipated in the resistance is 500 W and the drop across
it is 100 V. The dissipated in the coil is 100 W and the drop
across it is 50 V. Find the resistance and reactance of the coil
and the supply voltage.
