a. Obtain the expression for current, when voltage v = Vm, sin𝜔𝑡 is applied across purely [4]

OR Draw the impedance and admittance triangle ? State their components along with their
units.
b. Derive the expression for power, when voltage v = Vm, sin t is applied across R-L series [6]
circuit. Draw the phasor diagram.

Find the expression for current which will flow when a pure inductor of 0.2H is connected
across 230 V, 50 Hz, AC supply. Draw the phasor daigram.

c. A coil having resistance of 7Ω and an inductance of 31.8 mH is connected to 230 V, 50 Hz [8]


supply. Calculate :
(i) the circuit current
(ii) phase angle
(iii) power factor
(iv) power consumed
(v) voltage drop across resistance and inductor.

b. The series circuit having resistance 5Ω and capacitance 150𝜇F is connected to 1-phase, [6]
200 V, 50 Hz AC supply. Calculate -
[i] capacitive reactance Xc [ii] impedance [iii] current drawn by the circuit [iv] power factor
[v] Active power and [vi] reactive power.

c. A coil of inductance 15mH and resistance 25Ω resistance is connected in series with a [8]
capacitor ' C ' across 230 V, 50 Hz supply. Find the value of capacitor so that circuit draws
maximum current. What will be the power factor and power consumed?

The resistance of 5Ω is connected across 200 V, 50 Hz 1-phase a.c. supply. The voltage
across the resistance is 50 V. Calculate :
(i) voltage across inductance
(ii) value of inductance
(iii) power and
(iv) power factor

a. Explain the concept of three phase supply and phase sequence. [3]

b. What are losses taking place in the transformer ? State the parts in which they takes place. [6]
How to minimize these losses ?
c. Obtain the relation between phase values and line values of voltage and current in case of [8]
balanced DELTA connected 3-ph inductive load. Assume phase sequence RYB. Draw the
necessary phasor diagram.

a. With neat sketches, explain the various types of lamination used for the construction of [3]
core of single phase transformer.

b. Derive the emf equation of 1-phase transformer. [6]

A 50 kVA single phase transformer has a turns ratio of 300/20. The primary winding is
connected to a 2200 V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate. [6]
i) The secondary voltage at no load.
ii) The approximate value of Primary current on full load.
iii) The approximate value of secondary current on full load.

OR

A 10KVA, 3300/220 V 1-phase 50 Hz transformer has emf per turn equal to 10 . Calculate
(i) Turns on primary side
(ii) Turns on secondary side
(iii) Maximum flux in the core
(iv) Primary and secondary full load current.

A 3300/110 V, 50 Hz, 50kVA transformer has full load copper load of 1600 watts and iron
loss of 1800 watts. Estimate the transformer efficiency at :
(i) full load and 0.7 lagging pf

(ii) half load and 0.85 lagging pf.

c. Three coils, each having a resistance of 20Ω and an inductance of 15Ω are connected in [8]
star to a 400 V, 3-phase, 50 Hz supply.
Calculate :
(i) The line current
(ii) Power factor and
(iii) Power supplied.

a. State and explain Kirchoff's current law and Kirchoff's voltage law with the help of suitable [4]
diagram.
b. For the circuit shown in fig. 5.b find the current flowing through PQ using Kirchhoff's laws. [6]

OR Determine all loop currents using KVL. All resistances are in ohm

c. Derive the equations to convert Delta connected resistive circuit into equivalent star circuit. [8]

b. Find resistance between A and B for the network shown in [6]

c. State Superposition Theorem and write down the steps to find current through AB for [8]
network shown in Fig. below.

a. Explain the effect of temperature on resistance. [3]

Or

State the factors on which resistance of the conductor depends. What is the effect of
increase in temperature on resistance of copper conductor, silicon and nichrome?

b. Prove that 𝛼2 = 𝛼1 /1 + 𝛼1 (𝑡2 − 𝑡1 ), all the symbols have their appropriate meaning. [6]

If 𝛼1 and 𝛼2 are RTC's of material at 𝑡1 ∘ C and t 2 ∘ C respectively, then prove that, 𝛼1 /𝛼2 =
1 + 𝛼(𝑡2 − 𝑡1 ).

c. Explain the operation of Lithium ion battery with construction & chemical reactions during [8]
charging and discharging. Also state its applications.
