I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 95%of the students should be able to:
a. Identify he the basic rights of a young individual
b. give the meaning of the unfamiliar words though _______.
c. exhibit the 21st century skills through the different group performances
d. realize the value of sacrifice through the reading text

II. Subject Matter


Literature: “I Shall Have Other Birthdays” by Ceferino S. Joven
References: English Time Module, Lesson 7: Upholding Children’s Rights pp.
57- 61

B. Your Initial Tasks


Task #1: Do you know your rights?
The teacher will ask the students if they know their basic rights as a child
by completing the sentence below:

As a child, I have the right to __________________.


Task #2: Know them more!
The teacher will show statements/examples of children’s rights and the
students will tell whether they agree or disagree. (The students will have
to answer MISMO if they agree and OMSIM if not.)
1. As a child, I have the right to have a wholesome family who loves
and cares for me.
2. I have the right to be developed as a well-rounded individual.
3. It is my right to disobey my parents or teachers if I want to.
4. It is my right to respect customs and traditions of people.
5. It is also my right to respect the laws of our country.

Task #3: Get me done!


The teacher class will be grouped into five (5) and each group will be
given a puzzle associated to a birthday. They must be able to identify what
is in the picture.

Task #4: It’s your day!


The teacher is going to ask the students the following questions:
 When is your birthday?
 How do you celebrate your birthday?
 What gift do you want go get on your birthday? Did you receive it?

Ask the following questions:
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. Who was the boy whistling merrily? Why is he acting like that?
3. Who came to their house looking for his mother? Why is she looking
for her?
4. What are the two things his mother promised him for his birthday?
5. Did he get these things? Why not?
6. Why does Emilio’s mother cried?
7. What did Emilio told his mother?
8. If you were Emilio, would you be mad if you were not able to get what
you want for your birthday? Why or why not?
9. If you we’re Donya Achay how would you talk to Pangoy about her
debts? Would you be like how Donya Achay acted?
10. Would you do what Emilio did? Why or why not?

D. Your Discovery Task (Pre-Assigned)

The class will be divided into five (5) groups and each will be given task
described below:
