FLASHLIGHT POWER
Teagan Daley, EDU 214
Title Page
“Quick! The lights went out, I
need you to grab a flashlight.”
Is bigger really better when it comes to
flashlights?
Problem/Question
If the flashlight is larger,
then the light will shine
farther due to the
flashlight’s width.
Hypothesis
Room
What is
(darkened at a later stage)
Small
needed? Flashlight
Large flashlight
Medium
Flashlight
- Three flashlights of the following sizes: Measuring tape
small, medium, and large. These are
determined in relation to the other
flashlights’ widths.
- Dark room
- Measuring tape or ruler
Materials
Steps:
See pictures for examples.
Procedure
What does the data show?
Specific findings: Did you know that a cat uses its whiskers as
feelers to determine if a space is too small
Small - 8 inches reached to squeeze through?
Results/DATA
To summarize my findings….
My hypothesis was incorrect. The width of the
flashlights did not correlate to the length of
light produced. There was no relation between
the widths and lengths of light reached. In the
future, I would likely experiment with the
different lumen ratings on flashlights and
include more widths. The lumen ratings in
particular is a question for me. Also, I will not
be buying flashlights due to their size
outwardly. I will, however, be reaching for my
medium sized flashlight in an emergency
situation. That is my main takeaway from my
learning.
