As there are more sounds than letters,
we use symbols for pronunciation.
/iː/ and /ɪ/

allowing the air to flow through it
How to make the sound /iː/?
/iː/ is a long sound. Look at the diagram. Then
follow the video saying the sound. Make your
mouth wide, like a smile. Your tongue touches
the sides of your teeth. Target sound: /iː/

• 舌尖抵下齿,舌前部向上抬。嘴角向两边拉,成
微笑状态
• 类似于汉字"衣"的发音,但舌位较高,声音较长

How to make the sound /ɪ/?


/ɪ/ is a short sound. Look at the diagram. Listen
and then say the sound. Make your mouth a bit
less wide than for /i:/. Your tongue is a bit further
back in your mouth than for /iː/. Target sound: /ɪ/

• 上下唇比发/i:/时微开,嘴角肌肉略微放松
• 类似于汉字‘衣’与‘也’之间的发音
