MCD Spreadsheet and Fries- Turning data on a


spreadsheet into charts

I struggled with the third spreadsheet the most. I found the first two spreadsheets fairly
simple as I had worked with those types of graphs (bar and line) before. However, I
had never made a pie chart online prior to this project. The formulas for averaging and
generating the sum were easily put in. I followed along with any issues and could
adjust the column and row values (in other words, the cell ranges) to get my intended
result from the formulas. It was easy to find out information regarding McDonald’s
nutrition facts online from the website. Additionally, I had plenty of willing volunteers to
complete my survey on flavor choices. With this project and artifact, I was able to
explore creating and filling in spreadsheets. Along with this, I feel comfortable making
graphs of all different types and adjusting them to be the most helpful for me and
anyone needing to see the data represented.

analyze them, and represent data in various ways to facilitate problem-solving and
decision-making.

I would likely use this project to represent data in my classroom. A specific example
could be test grades. I could look at student’s scores and compare them to others in
the class to see their performance. Using the average formula, I would be able to tell
which students seem to be falling behind and offer them some additional instructional
help. If I was to use this project in a lesson, I would likely have students practice
surveying other classmates. Or, I would have this as a voting opportunity for choices
such as a themed party or meal. With this, I would be able to show students how they
voted by displaying a variety of charts/graphs. Alternatively, I might use just a
spreadsheet with older students to track behaviors such as skipping or tardiness to
watch out for their wellbeing. To recap, I do find using spreadsheets and graphs
helpful, but I would likely have them as a personal resource rather than incorporating
them in my teaching to a large extent.
