FIND THE ANOVA

Three brands of weight enhancing vitamins were tried on a sample of three groups of a children the data
are reflected on the table below in terms of weight gain in pound

BRAND A BRAND B BRAND C

4.4 3.1 2.8
4.0 2.9 2.5
3.5 3.7 3.1
5.2 3.8 3.4

2.6 3.0 3.6
4.2 3.9 2.8
3.7 3.2 3.5
3.5 3.0 3.3

Determine if there is no significant difference in the average weight gain (in lbs) among the three groups
of children using the three brands of weight enhancing vitamins at a=5%.

Step 1: State the null and alternative hypothesis.

1 Null Hypothesis (𝐻0 ): 𝜇: 𝑥1 = 𝑥2 = 𝑥3, 𝜇 = 3
2.Alternative Hypothesis (𝐻𝑎 ): 𝜇 − 𝑥1 ≠ 𝑥2 ≠ 𝑥3, 𝜇 ≠ 3
3. Write 𝐻0 in words:
𝐻0 there is no significant difference in average weight gain among the three groups of children using 3
brands of weight enhancing vitamins.
4. Write 𝐻𝑎 in a word:
𝐻𝑎 there is a significant difference in average weight gain among the three groups of children using 3
brands of weight enhancing vitamins.

Step 2: find the critical value

Critical value : k=3, n=27, ⅆ𝑓 𝑁 = 𝑘 − 1 = 2 ⅆ𝑓 𝐷 = 𝑛 − 𝑘 = 24
Step 3: Computations:
