Session 8 : Be a Yogi at Home

yuktāhāra-vihārasya
yukta-ceṣṭasya karmasu
yukta-svapnāvabodhasya
yogo bhavati duḥkha-hā [6.17]
He who is regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate all material
pains by practicing the yoga system.
yoginām api sarveṣāṁ
mad-gatenāntar-ātmanā
śraddhāvān bhajate yo māṁ
sa me yukta-tamo mataḥ [6.47]
And of all yogīs, the one with great faith who always abides in Me, thinks of Me within himself and
renders transcendental loving service to Me – he is the most intimately united with Me in yoga and
is the highest of all. That is My opinion. [6.46 talks about Yogi is the highest]
ye tu dharmāmṛtam idaṁ
yathoktaṁ paryupāsate
śraddadhānā mat-paramā
bhaktās te ’tīva me priyāḥ [12.20]
Those who follow this imperishable path of devotional service and who completely engage
themselves with faith, making Me the supreme goal, are very, very dear to Me.
• Life of Aghoris and other Yogis in the Himalayas has extreme austerities to realize the self
• However, the process of Bhakti is simple and easy. This can be practiced at every house
hold.
- Story of Maharaj Ambarisha and Durvasa Muni and Bhakta Prahlada tells us the power of
devotional service.

śrī-bhagavān uvāca
ahaṁ bhakta-parādhīno
hy asvatantra iva dvija
sādhubhir grasta-hṛdayo
bhaktair bhakta-jana-priyaḥ [SB 9.4.64]
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said to the brāhmaṇa: I am completely under the control of
My devotees. Indeed, I am not at all independent. Because My devotees are completely devoid of
material desires, I sit only within the cores of their hearts. What to speak of My devotee, even those
who are devotees of My devotee are very dear to Me.
nāham ātmānam āśāse
mad-bhaktaiḥ sādhubhir vinā
śriyaṁ cātyantikīṁ brahman
yeṣāṁ gatir ahaṁ parā [SB 9.4.65]
O best of the brāhmaṇas, without saintly persons for whom I am the only destination, I do not desire
to enjoy My transcendental bliss and My supreme opulences.
mayi nirbaddha-hṛdayāḥ
sādhavaḥ sama-darśanāḥ
vaśe kurvanti māṁ bhaktyā
sat-striyaḥ sat-patiṁ yathā [SB 9.4.66]
As chaste women bring their gentle husbands under control by service, the pure devotees, who are
equal to everyone and completely attached to Me in the core of the heart, bring Me under their full
control
mat-sevayā pratītaṁ te
sālokyādi-catuṣṭayam
necchanti sevayā pūrṇāḥ
kuto ’nyat kāla-viplutam [SB 9.4.67]
My devotees, who are always satisfied to be engaged in My loving service, are not interested even
in the four principles of liberation [sālokya, sārūpya, sāmīpya and sārṣṭi], although these are
automatically achieved by their service. What then is to be said of such perishable happiness as
elevation to the higher planetary systems?
Five different types of liberation can be attained
• Sarsti: achieving opulences equal to that of the Lord.
• Sarupya: having a form like that of the Lord. ...
• Samipya: living as a personal associate of the Lord.
• Salokya: living on a Vaikuṇṭha planet.
• Sayujya: Merging into the Brahman feature of the Lord.

Five kinds relationships with God (Krishna)

• Shant bhava -- loving God as a supreme governor
• Dasya bhava -- loving God as a master
• Sakhya bhava -- loving God as your close friend
• Vatsalya bhava --loving God as your child
• Madhurya bhava -- tloving God as your beloved
