I. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1. It is said that assessment is an essential aspect of teaching. Why? Explain. (10 pts.)
-
Assessment is an essential aspect of teaching and because assessment involves testing the students to see how
well they have learned. Since it establishes whether or not educational objectives are being reached, assessment
is a crucial component of instruction. Grades, placement, advancement, instructional needs, curriculum, and, in
some situations, funding decisions are influenced by assessments. Assessment of students can take place
throughout the course, this is called the assessment FOR learning because it helps both the teacher and the student
to see how well they are learning as they move through the course. The assessment which occurs at the end of the
course is called the assessment OF learning because the assessment happens after all the learning has taken
place. The results of the assessment, prima facie, should also reflect the effectiveness of the teaching.

Moreover, assessment is an important aspect of teaching because the teacher can find out how his or her students are
doing in terms of how they are learning the material, whether or not they are learning the material, what areas they need
to work on, and what areas they seem to excel in. It is also important that teaches assess in several different ways and
obvious example of one-way tests. Another example is running records which are used for example when students are
reading independently. Homework is another example of assessing what the student learned. Assessment is important
to a learner so that he or she can understand his/ her strengths and weaknesses regarding the material learned in class.
Teachers need to be a facilitator of student learning so that students can access themselves as well because that’s
important for their learning and their progress as they go along at school.

2. In your own opinion, which traditional assessment tool/s is/are usually used in multi-grade classes? Why
do you think it/they is/are appropriate in assessing learning? Justify your answer. (10 pts.)
-
A constant process is assessment. Teachers must examine each teaching and action that they, as well as their
students, exhibit. Reflection on teaching methods is a good idea. Teachers should develop the practice of evaluating
the effectiveness of their curriculum, instruction, and even teaching methods. By doing so, they might demonstrate
an openness to change and improvement. Additionally, when they reflect, they will be aware of both their
effectiveness and the experiences of the learner.

The pupils' learning is greatly influenced by assessment. It is a teacher's responsibility to give pupils learning
opportunities that are appropriate for their requirements and encourage efficient learning. More importantly, these
evaluations and assessments must focus on the learning process rather than just assigning grades.

Teachers must use a variety of assessment techniques when evaluating their students' performances and
accomplishments in multi-grade classes. Individual assessment, group assessment, self-assessment, and peer
assessment should all be included in assessments. Your ingenuity and imagination are your only limitations when it
comes to assessment and evaluation, just like with any other factors you must take into account while managing
and preparing your lessons and classroom in a multi-grade class.
