Evaluate how your teachers conduct assessment in their classes. Answer the following
question.

What are the forms of assessment do your teachers employ?

•Formative assessment and Summative assessment.

Are you happy or satisfied with how they assess? Test? measure? Or evaluate your
outputs?

– I'm not happy on how they assess, test, measure or evaluate my outputs because there
are times teachers can't recognize invisible efforts of their students. There are also
teachers who favor students, like the typical "active" students.

Lesson 3: Principles of Assessment of learning

Let’s Explore

Direction: We shall be using RUE technique. The text on the next page is from the blog of
Jeremy. You shall do the following:

1. Read and Underline

- Go over the 10 principles and as you can each of them, underline those
lines, phrases or statements which have touched you most
2. Explain your line
- After reading and you have chosen the line, justify your line and relate it to
your own experience in the classroom. A space below is provided for you to
write your explanation

Let us take into account the learners multiple intelligence and learning styles in
assessment. Give various assessment techniques in order to cater individual differences.
These lines touch my heart as a student who can't clearly express her own ideas
verbally. There are instances in our classroom where our teacher is asking about a
certain topic of the day, I want to raise my hand and share my idea but when as I was to
do it, the teacher ignore me and look to my active classmate and let her take the spot
light. My point here is, the teacher should let his/her students share their ideas freely,
she/he shouldn't focused on the active one. Teachers should let students recite and
express their thoughts and ideas.
Let’s Deepen

Direction: From the 10 principles, choose 3 of them and evaluate how teachers practice or violate
them.

Principles of Assessment of Learning How teachers practiced or violated.

Teaching and learning is never complete without I once have a teacher who just give activities and

us about the said topic regarding the activities she

Assessment result should be feedback to the When I was in highschool, my teacher in Aral Pan

our papers individually and put higher marks in our
answer sheets. She reads it in the class and
commented that if we listen to her while she is
discussing she give us high scores even though it is
wrong.

Build the culture of success in the classroom. I experienced this kind of embarassment and
develop fear of grumpy teachers when I was in
Grade 4. I tried my best to answer on the board,
but my homeroom teacher kept on telling me that
I am not fit enough to be an honor student
because I dont know math. What kind of
motivation is that. A true teacher should always
support her/his students no matter how slow they
learn.
Let’s Evaluate

Directions: Below are several classroom situations. Determine which principle is being applied or
violated.

1. Teacher A arrives in the classroom and finds out that the class is very noisy and disorganize.
He announces a short quiz
- Never use assessment as a disciplinary action or punishments
2. Teacher B calls the parents of the learners to give their report cards and conduct conference
with those who need more guidance from parents.
- Assessment should be communicated regularly and clearly to parents
3. Teacher C administered the third periodical exams last week and today distributes the
checked and recorded results.
- Assessment result should be feedback to the students
4. Teacher D’s objective is that learners be able to recite the poem. The learners were given a
task that is copy the poem and memorize.
- Assessment tool and objectives must be collinear
5. Teacher E’s learning plan includes engaging activities to assess and scaffold learning.
- Teaching and learning is never complete without assessment
6. Teacher F designed differentiated activities to suit the diverse in interest and skills of the
learners.
- In assessment, consider the learners multiple intelligences and learning’s
7. Teacher G’s test includes two items that apply the concepts I the learners own context.
- Emphasizes on real world application that favors realistic performances over out of
context drill items
8. Teacher H encourages the learners real affirms their answer and givens them some awards.
- It is wise to give some positive feedback as well as constructive criticisms
9. Teachers I include some items in the exams which let the learners themselves and reflect
critically.
- Emphasizes self- assessment
10. Teacher J believes that Mario could not solve the Math problem because he does not know his
multiplication table.
- Build the culture of success in the classroom

Module II: Principles of High Quality Assessment

1. Describe a good test or assessment

A good test or assessment can be describe as efficient to develop the student thinking skills,
stimulate learning, good feedback of a teacher.
2 . Who among your teachers elicit your interest in taking your test or activities?

As a student, I fear to be friends with teachers because they might scold me in any way
possible. But when I met Maam Donna, my perspective of a teacher changed. She is more
like a friend to me and my classmates, she always guide, understand and motivate us
whenever we need a friend to talk to.

3. What are some weaknesses do your teachers have in their manner of constructing their test or
activities?

Sometimes they use unappropriate words.

4. Are you satisfied with how they provide assessment activities? Justify

Sometimes there are instances they provide assessment activities which is not appropriate to the lesson
that we tackle. Nonetheless, there are also some teachers who have passion in teaching, which they
provide fun and engaging assessment activities
