climate stabilization and
reduce greenhouse gas
emission. However,
industrial
decarbonization can only
be applied under
conditions of established
national policies,
availability of access to
energy resources, high
market potential, fixed
standardization to
technology and its
availability, and also
good financial capability.

Industrial decarbonization is the
reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
from all aspects of industry without
industrial sector to the competitiveness
and prosperity of the national economy.
There are three priorities to accelerate
decarbonizing industry, such as :
1. energy efficiency;
2. electricity decarbonization (electricity
generated from low emission sources);
and
3. electrification at the end of use (using
electricity in all activities, providing
electricity is also generated from low
emission sources).
Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale
Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) has studied
the potential market for industrial
decarbonization technology in Indonesia,
around 1,895 kT/year in 2021, including for
industry (Urea, Ammonia, Refinery, and
Methanol), and the other demands such as
manufacturing biofuels, green steel, island
networks, and heavy vehicle fuel cells
(ebtke.esdm.go.id).

THE STEPS TO IMPLEMENT

INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION

Approve the New Renewable Energy Bill.

The application of low carbon technology should be placed
within the national development framework (RPJMN and
RPJMD).
Compensation for stopping production of fossil energy sources.
The government needs to provide financial incentives for the
public and private sectors who want to optimize industrial
decarbonization.
Consideration of the amount of financing and the party who
responsible for the financing.
Improve the capacity of human resources.
Further studies and assessments on the urgency of industrial
decarbonization.
