3. INSPECTION SUMMARY
In this report inspection findings after performing non‐destructive testing including
Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging (UTG), Corrosion Mapping, Magnetic Particle
Inspection (MPI), Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD)(if applicable) and in‐situ
Metallography(if applicable) on high pressure transmission pipelines of segments
10” inch Dia Pipeline of Section C-8 TO CV-32 of SNGPL WAH region. The report
consists of inspection findings / observations and recommendations (Checklists and
Photographs) and also refer to appendix A (NDT Reports) and appendix B (Sketch of
line with CML markings) for more details.
In bell hole #7 the welded spilt full encirclement sleeve was found hence the pipe
surface after sand blasting also observed general pitted and maximum depth of pit
was observed 1.52 mm. Therefore it is highly recommended to perform DCVG
survey of pipeline adjustment to the bell hole # 7 location (MP 169.03+784) and
verify the integrity of coating and CP, also de-coat the damaged coating and perform
GVI bare pipe after de-coating.

3.1 FFS Assessment as per API 579-1/ FFS-1

FFS Level-1 assessment was carried out according to 6.4.2 API 579 for each section
of bell-hole separately.
BELL HOLE NUMBER 1:
For 10" ⌀ M/L C‐6 to CV-32, segment
Nominal thickness (t nom) = 6.35 mm
LOSS in 10" ⌀ M/L CV.6 to CV-32 segment (Uniform loss in inspection) (max.) =0.00 mm
Uniform thickness away from damage area established by thickness measurements (T rd) = 7.54 mm
Future Corrosion allowance (FCA) = 2.02mm
Future corroded wall thickness away from the damage area tc = tnom − LOSS – FCA
tc = 5.52 mm
Minimum measured thickness for the pit with maximum depth tmm = Trd -wmax
tmm = 7.54 mm
As Pitting & corrosion damage are acting on opposite sides: Criteria as per API 579 is
tmm – FCA ≥ 1.30 mm (for piping)
By calculating, tmm – FCA = 5.52 mm (criteria satisfied)
Average remaining wall thickness ratio Rwt = tmm - FCA / tc as per API 579 should be Rwt > 0.2
Rwt = tmm - FCA / tc = 1.00 mm (criteria satisfied)
As per API 579 Level 1 Criteria d ≤ Q √ D⋅tc, if this criteria is not satisfied for an individual pit, then
the pit should be evaluated as a local thin area using the Level 2 assessment procedure.
For Individual pit, Maximum Diameter of pit (d) = 05.00 mm
Where Q is Factor used to determine length for thickness averaging based on an allowable
Remaining Strength Factor (RSFa) and the Remaining Thickness Ratio (Rwt) (Part 4, Table 4.8
API 579)
Rwt = RSF = 0.931, for the pitting corrosion extensive case
We know that recommended value of RSFa as per Annex 2F API 579 = 0.90
Rt is basically Rwt. Using Rt and RSFa in Table 4.8 API 579 the value of Q = 50
Inside dia of 10" pipeline (D) = 254 mm (API 574 Table-1
Q √ D⋅tc = 1872.21
Hence, Criteria d ≤ Q √ D⋅tc satisfied
Hence, RSF ≥ RSFa, the pitting corrosion is acceptable for operation at the MAWP
subjected to current operating conditions. Therefore, the inspected pipeline is Fit-For-
Service until next integrity inspection subjected to current operating conditions.

By calculating, tmm – FCA = 5.52 mm (criteria satisfied)
Average remaining wall thickness ratio Rwt = tmm - FCA / tc as per API 579 should be Rwt > 0.2
Rwt = tmm - FCA / tc = 0.99 mm (criteria satisfied)
Q √ D⋅tc = 1895.81
Hence, Criteria d ≤ Q √ D⋅tc satisfied
Hence, RSF ≥ RSFa, the pitting corrosion is acceptable for operation at the MAWP
subjected to current operating conditions. Therefore, the inspected pipeline is Fit-For-
Service until next integrity inspection subjected to current operating conditions.

Recommendations

Following are recommendations based on visual findings.

 Coating was found unsatisfactory, Hence Moisture was also observed under the coating surface at
5 O clock. Hence coating was recoated after inspection as per SNGPL standards.

 General pitting was observed on entire surface of exposed pipe in pit area hence the pitting may
be continued under the buried/unexposed area, maximum depth of pit found 0.60 mm near weld
seam/HAZ area. Therefore it is highly recommended to perform DCVG survey of pipeline near
BELLHOLE # 7 and exposed the pipeline for visual inspection of coating and bare pipe for serve
pitting and recoat the pipe line as per SNGPL standards.

 It is also advised to repair/buildup the pit near weld joint /HAZ area as per applicable
standard

 According to clause 9.9.3 API 570 (2016 edition), Welded repairs and full encirclement
sleeve repairs shall be made in accordance with 8.1 & 8.2.
 Condition of Bell Hole found satisfactory till next integrity inspection, general recommendations
are provided at the end.

Gas Buried Pipeline
Velosi Project No. VISP-L-18-247 Date of Inspection: 18TH January 2020 to 25th January 2020

6. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
6.1 CP system should be checked according to NACE SP 0169 section 10.
6.2 Pipe to soil potential survey should be conducted at the interval of three years (API
570 Section 9.8.2) for verification of continuous corrosion control of buried pipeline
segment (API 570 9.3.2 Pipe-to-soil Potential Survey). Although for above ground
visual survey SNGPL should, at approximately six month intervals survey the surface
conditions on and adjacent to buried piping path as per API 570 Section 9.2 (API 570
Section 9.8.1)
6.3 Strict adherence to SNGPL quality assurance/quality control procedures should be
ensured while carrying out any construction or maintenance activity on the pipeline.
6.4 In bell hole #7 the welded spilt full encirclement sleeve was found hence the pipe
surface after sand blasting also observed general pitted and maximum depth of pit was
observed 1.52 mm. Therefore it is highly recommended to perform repair work as per
API 570 section 8 or as per SNGPL standards and also conduct DCVG survey of
pipeline adjustment to the bell hole # 7 location (MP 169.03+784) and verify the
integrity of coating and CP, also de-coat the damaged coating and perform GVI bare
pipe after de-coating.
6.5 As per the observation on site it is highly recommended to conduct DCVG survey at
up and down stream adjacent to bell hole # 7(minimum 500 meters) to ensure the
coating condition of pipeline
6.6 According to clause 9.9.3 API 570 (2016 edition), Welded repairs and full
encirclement sleeve repairs shall be made in accordance with 8.1 & 8.2.
6.7 According to clause 9.9.1 API 570 (2016 edition), any coating removed for inspection
shall be renewed and inspected appropriately. In addition, coating repairs may be
tested using a high voltage holiday detector. The detector voltage shall be adjusted to
the appropriate value for the coating material and thickness. Any holidays found shall
be repaired and retested according to clause 9.9.1 API 570 (2016 edition), any coating
removed for inspection.
