THE PROBLEM - Climate Change & Social Disparity

1. Building construction and operations account for

approximately 39% of CO2 emission annually.

2. By year 2030, Architecture 2030 has projected that

the embodied carbon of building material will
contribute to 74% of total global CO2 emissions
from building industry.
Source: Architecture 2030
3. There is an Urgent Need for new alternative and
sustainable materials, smarter design and building
reuse technologies.

4. McKinsey Report 2005 ‘India Urban Awakening’

mentions that there is large scale migration of rural
population to urban areas due to lack of livelihood
opportunities in villages which is impacting the
socio- cultural fabric of India

2
THE SOLUTION...
Replace Unsustainable Material Wood By Most Eco-friendly Natural Material On The Planet “BAMBOO” for following
reasons.
1. It is one of the fastest renewable natural resource, a grass which is similar to wood
2. Generates better livelihood opportunities for farmers, rural folk, artisans living in villages

3
What is JANS?
The name JANS is derived from a moment in time which captures the essence of the energy that we human’s feel
during the time when clock ticks from 31st of Dec and ushers in 1st of Jan. The otherwise routine moment of the
clock that it undergoes 31.53 million times in a year, becomes significant for us humans because of our positive
energy at that moment. We resolve to do many positive things in our life starting with this defining moment when
the clock strikes 00:01 hrs on 1st of January.

JANS stands for bringing this positive energy, enthusiasm and resolve to its business and is backed up by strong
subject knowledge, strategy, network and operations capability. In an otherwise age-old sector of Bamboo, we shall
create a new paradigm in sustainable enterprise, to began with in India and in the near future, in our world.
All our products are made from “Bamboo”, the nature’s gift to mankind, which is becoming more and more relevant
in today’s world of rising threats of Climate Change & Social Disparity.

Our Vision: To replace wood in all its forms so as to prevent the cutting of trees which contribute to climate
change. Provide a credible alternative to steel and concrete, the energy guzzlers.

Our Mission: To create sustainable products from bamboo which addresses the dual issues of climate change and
social disparity creating value for all its stakeholders.

We welcome you to understand our work, our business, its positive social and environmental impact and look
forward to working with you to help spread this natural material further.

Why Bamboo is not mainstream Construction/ Furniture in India?

China India

90 % Bamboo grown for COMMERCIAL plantation, straight and 1% Bamboo grown in COMMERCIAL plantation, crooked and
beautiful, grown as a CROP thorny, mainly grown in the WILD
233 species available but focus on only 2 species mass cultivation as 136 species available. Not particular species grown as
plantation plantation
Focussed on cheap and inferior material and low value
Focused on good quality raw material and high value products

Scientific Cultivation, High yield and easy to harvest Wild, Low yield and difficult to harvest
What do we do that’s different to help make Bamboo mainstream?
We manage the entire eco-system of Bamboo right from plantation, harvesting, age-grading, treatment,
engineering, kit-making, fabrication, assembly and erection. One Stop Solution towards Bamboo Construction

1. Farmers are trained 2. Harvesting at right 3. Age grading for 4. Preservative treatment 5. Straightening of bamboo
to cultivate bamboo time as per use segregating bamboo to increase life of bamboo poles

6. Straightened Bamboo 7. Prefab. Components 8. Packed components 9. Transportation 10. Erection of Components

7
How JANS has Changed the Game – Our Ideology towards Bamboo Products

1. Harness the strength of Bamboo, make it a viable mainstream product which will result in reduction in
the use of wood, steel and cement. Use of Bamboo will maximize carbon capture and also reduce tree
cutting replenishing forests that plays an important role in mitigating climate change.

2. To Generate better livelihood for small farmers by making Bamboo as a sustainable agro-crop thereby
ensuring that good part of the income reaches the end of supply chain. This will incentivise consistent
supply of good quality raw material from farmers.

3. Using our experience, capabilities & strength, create new production facilities and also work with
existing agencies / production units / micro-entrepreneurs in villages to ensure consistent supply of
good quality Bamboo products at desired time.

4. In the process become a Mentor and build up a robust eco-system to fulfil the needs and requirements
of the Customer.

5. Create value for all stakeholders and build a Sustainable Enterprise

What Clients Say about Us
1. We had initially given a small work of outdoor bathroom enclosure to JANS Bamboo as a
sample, however the quality of work that they did exceeded our and the designers
expectations. Seeing their zest for excellence, we offered them the complicated work of
detailed design, engineering and execution of Terra, one of our unique restaurants at the
resort. JANS carried out this work not only to our satisfaction but is a delight for our
customers and this is the restaurant which is most spoken about.
It has also been distinguished as one of the top 16 beautiful waterfront restaurants in the
world by CNN-Travel, UK. We are happy to give repeat orders to JANS for all our bamboo
work.
- Waldorf Astoria (Hilton) Ithaafushi Maldives. (amongst the top 10 resorts in the world)

2. Collaborating with JANS in the Organo Project has been among our most invigorating and
eye opening experiences as Architects, It took us into the world of one of the most sustainable
and aesthetically pleasing construction materials “Bamboo”. When we started the project
with a vision to build a large span structure using bamboo, we did not have any notion of the
scale effort and craftsmanship needed to materialize it. Bamboo structures of that scale until
then had not been attempted in India. Even with all the challenges incolved, the onsite work
in the project was completed in 4 months which is extremely important. The fact that even
3 years post construction, people say WOW when they enter the structure is a testimony to
their skill and understanding of this material.
