We tend to live
our lives believing
that there will
always be enough
time to right our
wrongs and to
atone for our
negligence and
insensitivities to
others – but, in
fact, our days are
numbered, death is an inevitability for all of us.
Today’s Gospel challenges us to look at what we consider
wealth: is it the amount of “stuff” we amass in our “barns” or
is it the satisfaction and productivity our possessions enable
us to experience? Often something’s true worth has nothing
to do with its monetary value or the momentary pleasure it
gives us. Its value is in the memories it preserves, in the time
it saves us for more important and joyful pursuits, in its
enabling us to experience the selfless and affirming love of
God in the good it enables us to do for family and friends.
Our lives are not about amassing fortunes or achieving great
celebrity – our lives are about finding and embracing selfless
and affirming love, about discovering how to love one another
as God loves us: totally and completely, without condition nor
limit.
Today’s Gospel is more than an indictment of wanton
consumerism; it’s a challenge to consider how we use things,
the value we place on “stuff.” Jesus calls us to take inventory
of our lives and the things that “clutter” them and refocus on
the treasures of God: compassion, mercy, forgiveness, peace.

The Spanish Mass is celebrated every other week at
7:00 p.m. Dates - August 7, 21, September 4. If you
know a farmer who may have some Hispanic Migrant
workers, please spread the word.

We have a good supply of handcrafted prayer shawls
available for parishioners, their families and friends
who are coping with illness, loneliness, pain or trouble.
They are available to anyone who needs one. If you
know someone that could use one, please come to the
church to pick one up.
DIOCESAN CANADIAN MISSIONS
SHARED COLLECTION - AUGUST 6/7th
This shared collection will benefit Catholic Missions
in Canada and the Diocese of St. Catharine’s Cana-
dian Mission partner. Catholic Missions In Canada
provides over $3 Million in financial support to
missionaries working in 24 Mission Dioceses in Canada:
support of missionaries ($2 million); religious education
($1 million); repair & maintenance. Envelopes are
available in the church pews or use a plain envelope and
clearly note “Canadian Missions Shared Collection”.
