FRIDAY NIGHT GATHERING
The St. Helen family of parishioners is invited to get
together via Zoom, every Friday, 6:30 to 8 p.m. for an
ongoing 10-week series of films and faith discussions
that will help to keep us as a parish connected.
We will watch amazing spiritually relevant videos
and break away into small groups to safely and freely
discuss what the film has offered us for contemplation.
Whether you are able to attend 1 or all 10 gatherings
know you will always be welcome to join when you can.

SPECIAL COLLECTION
POPE’S PASTORAL WORK - MAY 23
This collection provides an opportunity for Catholics to
make a financial offering to assist the Holy Father. One
-third of the funds collected is for what is traditionally
known as "Peter's Pence": donations used by the Pope
for his charitable contributions to those most in need
throughout the world, as well as for the support of the
Holy See and its activities. Envelopes are available at
the church and cheques must be made payable to St.
Helen Church. If donating via e-transfer or using a
plain envelope, clearly state Pope’s Collection and
your parish ID.
WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY - MAY 16
Today, Catholics are invited to reflect upon the media
of social communication and how these influence our
lives.
The media can promote values that lead to a more
fully human society. The Church’s ministry is twofold.
The media can be used to help promote the Gospel. At
the same time, as receivers of the materials presented
by the media, the faithful have a duty to support and
promote worthwhile presentations on media and reject
those which promote values contrary to spiritual
growth.

As the disciples were watching, Jesus was lifted up.
(Acts 1)
God seated Jesus at his right hand in heaven. (Eph 1)
The Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sits at the
right hand of God. (Mark 16)
The fledgling Church is
not off to a very promising
start. Christ places his
Church in the care of a rag
-tag collection of
fishermen, tax collectors
and peasants. And yet,
what began with those
eleven has grown and
flourished through the
centuries to the very walls
of our own parish family.
Jesus’ Ascension is both an ending and a
beginning. The physical appearances of Jesus are at an
end; his revelation of the “good news” is complete; the
promise of the Messiah is fulfilled. Now begins the
work of the disciples to teach what they have learned
and to share what they have witnessed.
The Church Jesus leaves to the disciples on the mount
of the Ascension is rooted not in buildings or wealth or
formulas of prayer or systems of theology but in faith
nurtured in the human heart, a faith centered in joy and
understanding that is empowering and liberating, a faith
that gives us the strength and freedom to be authentic
and effective witnesses of the Risen One, who is
present among us always.
Christ entrusts to his disciples of every time and place
the sacred responsibility of teaching others everything
he has taught and revealed about the Father: God's
limitless love, his unconditional forgiveness and
acceptance of every person as his own beloved child
and our identity as God's sons and daughters and
brothers and sisters to one another. Christ also calls us
to be witnesses of God's presence in our lives: to bring
into the lives of others his healing forgiveness and
reconciliation with God and one another, to hand on to
others the story that has been handed on to us about
Jesus and his Gospel of love and compassion.

Fr. Chris - 25 Years of Ordination
Silver Jubilee Celebratory Car Parade
This month Fr Chris will celebrate 25 years
since his ordination to the priesthood with a Mass
of Thanksgiving on Sunday May 30th @
11 a.m. Mass.
Fr. Chris was ordained to the priesthood on May
31st 1996 as a priest of the Diocese of Prince
Albert in Saskatchewan by then Bishop Blaise
Morand.
While at this time, we can’t have a proper
celebration, we still want to recognize this
important milestone in his priestly ministry. So
for now ...
Firstly - due to restrictions on gatherings and
the celebration of Mass, we will celebrate his sil-
ver jubilee with a CELEBRATORY CAR
PARADE on May 30th after the 11:00 a.m. Mass
beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome to
drive by the church, make some noise and offer
your best wishes!
Secondly, we invite you to email a personal
video message for Fr. Chris and if you have a
memorable picture to share as well, please send
them to frchris25th@sthelenscatholic.ca by
May 20th. Be sure to use this email only - we
will compile these for him as a keepsake.

recipients). Input amount to send and complete the transaction. Note in the memo area
what your donation is for; Sunday Offertory (SO), Facility Maintenance (FM) and
Building Fund (BF). (Please include your ID# in the memo - contact the office if you
do not have a parish ID.)
Example - SO $20 One transaction can be made for all three if you wish. Such a
notation could look like this: SO $xx, FM $xx, BF $xx. If your transaction does not
work the first time, please try the next day as the Diocese can only receive a set amount
