SANCTUARY LAMP
We have openings for the Sanctuary Lamp
during the year, starting in February). If you
would like to book a particular week in memory
of your loved one, please contact the office. Cost
is $35 per week.
MASS INTENTIONS 2022
If you would like to have a Mass
offered for someone, contact the parish
office. The Mass stipend or offering
given is $10.00. Mass cards are $2.00.

PREAUTHORIZED DEBIT
(PAD) is offered for your donations. If you are
interested in using this convenient way to make your

Donations are processed once a month, on or about the

MINISTRY continues to
create handcrafted shawls for
parishioners, their families
and friends who are coping
with illness, loneliness, pain or trouble. They are
available to anyone who needs one. Call the office to
request a shawl or lap blanket or to join this ministry.

DIOCESAN SEPARATED & DIVORCED
HEALING MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP
Every second and fourth Monday of the month from
7:00-9:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre, 7020
Stanley Ave., Niagara Falls. Pre-registration is
required. Meetings will be held both in person at Mount
Carmel and virtually via Zoom platform. Next session

 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The people understood the book of the Law as it was
read to them. (Nehemiah 8)
You form the body of Christ, yet each of you is a
different part of it. (1 Corinthians 12)
Today this Scripture has been fulfilled. (Luke 1)
Today we hear in the
opening words of Luke’s
Gospel his reason for
compiling his Gospel. He
writes for Theophilus “so
that [you] may see how
reliable the instruction you
have received.” This story
of Jesus who comes to
“proclaim glad tidings to the poor . . . to announce a
year of favor from the Lord” should make a profound
difference in the lives of all who hear it. In his
humanity, Jesus reveals a God who is approachable and
present to us in all that is good and right and loving
around us.
While Israel longed for a Messiah who would lead
them to victory and vindication, Jesus the Messiah
comes with a much different message of humility,
reconciliation, compassion and forgiveness. The “good
news” of the Gospel calls to become rather than to
shun, to lift up rather than condemn, to seek the humble
of way servanthood rather than the satisfaction of self-
righteousness.
In the Father’s Son, Isaiah’s vision of a world
transformed and reconciled in God’s peace and justice
is fulfilled; in God’s Christ, God re-creates us and our
world in the light of grace and the spirit of
compassion. In baptism, we take on the work of
“fulfilling” Isaiah’s vision of healing, justice and
reconciliation in our own “civilizations.”
Isaiah’s vision read by Jesus in today’s Gospel
includes us: We make Isaiah’s vision a reality in our
own Nazareths in every act of hope we make happen, in
every kindness prompted by God’s grace. As witnesses
of Christ’s resurrection, as baptized disciples of his
church, we inherit the Spirit’s call to “bring glad
tidings” and “proclaim the Lord’s favor” to the poor,
the imprisoned, the blind, the oppressed and the
helpless.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES: REMINDERS
Please do not use old offertory envelopes and discard
them. Envelope numbers get recycled, so if you use old
envelopes, you will not get credit for it. If your address
has changed, please notify the office directly. If you
haven’t been to the church in a while and are not sure
what your parish ID is, send an email to the office. An
ID can be assigned if you haven’t registered, regardless
if offertory envelopes are issued.
A Fond Farewell and a Warm Welcome!
For those who were unable to attend Mass last
weekend, Fr. Chris announced that he was leaving on
sabbatical. He will be returning in June. Fr. Chris will
be studying for three months and then take some time to
be with his family and friends in Poland. We wish him
well on this much deserved sabbatical.
During his absence, Fr. Bill Derousie will be the
Parish Administrator at St. Helen’s. While many of you
are familiar with Fr. Bill as he served at our parish
many years ago and also more recently, for others, he
will be a new face, especially as people return to
attending Mass at the church. We extend a warm
welcome to Fr. Bill and offer our support as he gets
acquainted with our community.

Retrouvaille’s purpose is to help couples restore their
marriage and rebuild a loving relationship. It is a
practical program designed to improve communication,
build stronger marriages, and help couples reconnect. It
also helps couples who may be considering separation

WEEKLY OFFERTORY COLLECTION
We wanted to give you notice that the Offertory
Collection Box will be placed on the round table in the
vestibule of the church - ushers will not be taking up the
collection. Due to covid, for your personal safety, it is
best that the baskets are not passed around, nor have
ushers leaning in to reach people. This will ensure we
maintain proper social distancing.
MANDATORY USE OF MASKS
Physical distancing and face masks are required for the
entire time during a Mass except to receive Holy
Communion. Put your mask on when entering the
building and keep it on. Please wear it properly. This
applies to all; your cooperation is appreciated by your
fellow parishioners.

If you would like to use this convenient method through your bank, please follow these
instructions (some banks charge a fee):
Go online and log into your bank account. Select Interac e-transfer and select a
recipient – the first time you will have to add recipient by putting in
donations@sthelenscatholic.ca (after the first time it will then stay on your list of
recipients). Input amount to send and complete the transaction. Note in the memo area
what your donation is for; Sunday Offertory (SO), Facility Maintenance (FM) and
Building Fund (BF). (Please include your ID# in the memo - contact the office if you
do not have a parish ID.)
Example - SO $20 One transaction can be made for all three if you wish. Such a
notation could look like this: SO $xx, FM $xx, BF $xx. If your transaction does not
work the first time, please try the next day as the Diocese can only receive a set amount
of donations in a 24-hour period. If you have any questions, please email or call the
