Peaky Blinders were the members of a street gang based in Birmingham, England, which

operated from 1880s until the 1910s. The group, which grew out of the harsh economic distress

of working class Britain, included largely young criminals from lower to middle class

backgrounds. They engaged in robbery, violence, illegal-bookmaking, and gambling. Members

wore signature outfits that typically included tailored jackets, an overcoats, buttoned waistcoats,

bell-bottom trousers, leather boots, and peaked flat caps.

The Blinders dominance came abut from beating rivals, who are known as the “Sloggers”, whom

they fought for territory in Birmingham. They held control for nearly 20 years until 1910, when a

larger gang the Birmingham Boys led by Billy Kimber overtook them.

In 2013, the name was reused for a BBC television series entitled “Peaky Blinders”. The series

which stars Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, and Joe Cole, is a crime story about a fictional crime

family operating in Birmingham just after World War I.

dispute between the Lees and the Shelby and asks his brother John to marry a girl from the Lee’s

family, John agrees. Thomas tells the Lee that he will be betraying Billy Kimber and he needs

men to help. Billy Kimber visits the Shelby home and hands Thomas a legal betting license.

Grace helps Arthur with his calculations and she discover some news about the guns and

ammunitions that Peaky Blinders have. She gives the information to Campbell who searches

them but comes up with nothing but cigarettes and whiskey. After hearing about how Grace was

asking questions about how they run their business, he brings Grace to church and there he

discovers she’s not a Catholic at all he knew that she was lying and hiding something form him.

He tells Grace that he wants her to work for the Shelby family as assistant and he kisses her.

Campbell and Grace meet and update each other. Campbell notes that Thomas has fallen heavily

for her. Thomas visits Grace and tells her that black star day is when he will take out Billy

Irishman) to the police only if Inspector helps him with it. Thomas comes into the pub and tells
Grace that trouble is coming. He gives her a gun and tells him to hide in the back until he signals

she believes the guns to be, in exchange for promising he will not harm Thomas. Campbell gives

Campbell gathers policemen and gives speech about going after Thomas. Thomas checks on the

guns and realizes guns are gone. Thomas visits Grace at the pub knowing that the police are

coming after him. Grace takes Thomas and brings him to her home to help him hide from the

police. Campbell finds out where Thomas has gone and call off the mission. Campbell visits

outside Grace’s home and sees she’s with Thomas and he leaves. Thomas asks Grace if she’ll

stay with him. Campbell thought that he’s completed the mission and he’ll be leaving the city

soon. Polly visits Grace at the pub just before she’s about to leave. They have their short talk.

The Peaky Blinders and Billy Kimber’s gang face off the Garrison lane. Billy was mad that

Thomas betrayed him and draws his gun and shoot Thomas. Danny steps forward to defend

wearing black dress walks through the streets of Small Heath and leave their strollers in front of

the pub, as they walk from the pub, it explodes. Polly and Thomas go to their ruined pub and find

confetti all over the place. To find out who blew up his pub, Thomas heads over to the Black

Lion. Thomas calls a family meeting, and tells them that he plans to expand his bookies' business

to London. Esme, John's wife, warns of the dangers given the existing race related racing wars.

Thomas discusses his plans for the London expansion and Newmarket Day the next day with

Polly. He says that all the London bosses will be at the races and it's a good opportunity to show

their hand. The Italian gangs and the Jewish gangs in London have been at war for six months,

with the Jewish gangs having the worst of it. Thomas wants to ally with them so that they can

have a foothold in the south of London. Thomas kills a blacksmith before picking up his

brothers, Arthur and John to go to London. The boys bury the blacksmith after they stop to take a

break in the countryside. In London, Thomas, Arthur and John go to the Eden Club, a jazz club

run by Darby Sabini, who controls half of the southern race courses, where they aren’t welcome.

Tommy offers to help Polly by searching for her children, who long ago were taken from her. In

London, Tommy risks his life by meeting mysterious leader Alfie Solomons while Arthur

continues to feel the destructive effects of the Great War. Tommy thinks of a plan to take control

of the southern racecourses. He also meets the elegant May Carleton, and sees an opportunity to

move up in the world. Meanwhile both Major Campbell and London gangster Darby Sabini plan

to take down Tommy. Tommy finds out exactly what mission Major Campbell is forcing him to

do. Meanwhile, Polly's son Michael is welcomed into the business, and quickly experiences the

dark side of the Peaky Blinders. Mysterious leader Alfie Solomons invites Arthur and Billy

Kitchen for a talk. Things changes quickly after Alfie sacrificed a goat named after Thomas and
shoots Billy Kitchen in the head. He has his men tie up Arthur Shelby and wait for the police to

come and blame him for the murder of the Billy Kitchen. Thomas goes to May Carleton and May

introduces him to Mick, whom she calls the best horseman in England. After then Thomas

receives a phone call from Grace. They agree to meet soon. Thomas has a family meeting where

he is informed of the gang's business losses due to the policeman. John Shelby informs Thomas

that The Eden Club has been raided by the coppers and returned to the ownership of Darby

Sabini and Alfie Solomons. Esme Shelby has news for Thomas. Polly says she shouldn't be

allowed to speak, because the meeting is for family only, and Esme is not family by blood.

Thomas hears her out, and she says she spoke to Johnny Dogs; the Lees are kin, and the Lee

family can give them men for a few nights. Polly says it is men that have done the damage and

put them in this position in the first place. Thomas disregards Polly and tells Esme they need

men and will take up the Lee family's offer. Polly tells Thomas that she will be taking Michael

away from the Shelby family when he gets out of prison and that this life is bad, this life is all

bad. As John is bringing the car around, Esme tells Thomas his gypsy half is the strongest, and if

he wants to ride a way and live life, she hears that France is the new place to go, they still let you

get lost there. Thomas tells her that he and John have already been to France. He grabs Esme by

the face and tells her if she ever talks about getting lost again, he will cut her from this family.

Grace Burgess lies to her husband and runs out to see Thomas, where after some conflict

between them Thomas informs her that he simply wanted to skip the past, so Thomas takes her to

see Charlie Chaplin in person. Thomas visits May Carleton to confess that he still loves Grace

and they shouldn’t continue like this. Meanwhile, Major Campbell is taking absolutely no

chances with Thomas and wants him taken out as soon as it’s done. He uses the help of

the government.
Before they get to the races Thomas explains to the Peaky Blinders and their allies that they must

take over Darby Sabini's race track licenses, and that he will be creating a diversion to distract

the police from their actions. At race, Thomas speaks to May Carleton, telling her that he will

meet her when he is done with his tasks for the day. He is just about to kick his plan into gear at

the races when he gets accosted by Grace Burgess, who tells him that she is pregnant and

carrying his child. He tells Grace that he will meet with her at the end of the day to speak further.

Thomas enlists the help of his secretary, Lizzie Stark to help him carry out his plan. Her job is to

distract Henry by taking him off somewhere private. A packed bar clears as the start of the race

is announced, leaving just Thomas and Major Campbell alone. Campbell yet retains his sense of

self-deluded righteousness. Thomas’s plan doesn’t exactly turn out as he hoped. He is delayed in

getting to Lizzie. When Thomas does arrive, his gun jams, but he grabs his target’s own pistol

and shoots Henry dead. The assassination is the diversion that Arthur Shelby Jr., John

Shelby and the Peaky Blinders gang need to hold up Darby Sabini’s bookmakers and burn their

licenses while the police are distracted. Thomas's smug showdown with an apparently

defeated Darby Sabini is only ruined when Campbell’s hired men rush in and kidnap Thomas,

placing him in a vehicle and driving off. Meanwhile, Grace and May wait for Thomas to turn up

but instead find each other. May speaks of the business allegiance she has with Thomas, while

Grace reminds her that the horse Grace's Secret is named after herself. Polly Shelby corners

Major Campbell in a phone booth and shoots him in the chest. There was a bloodstain on her

dress as behind her, Campbell was dying in the booth. Thomas is carried to certain field where

he faces certain death. One of the three would-be assassins shoots the other two in the head and

leaves Thomas lying in a grave, confused and alive. The man says, “At some point in the near

future, Mr. Churchill will want to speak to you in person, Mr. Shelby. He has a job for you.”
