WE START FROM
STUDENTS EYE LEVEL
A man was appreciating the art at the
Smithsonian Museum in Washington
DC. As he approached each painting,
he would kneel down and look up at it.
A curious visitor asked him why he was
looking at the paintings from his knees.
He replied,

“I am an elementary school teacher and

I will bring my students here tomorrow. I
was wondering how my students would
enjoy the paintings from a student’s eye
level.”

WHY START EYE LEVEL?
How a traditional academic model is usually
structured?

Learning gaps between students often occurs

because it’s hard to apply differentiated
instruction in a traditional academic model.

• Assume that all students have the same

academic level

• Use the same materials for learning

• Work at the same pace on the same quantity

of material

SO EYE LEVEL STARTS FROM…
Eye Level starts from seeking to find
each individual leaner’s

Academic Level :
Knowing what students are
good at and what they
struggle in

Personal Interest:
Student’s characteristic and
preference on learning
environment

Learning Ability:
Abilities& skills which needed
for learning such as motor skill,
attention span, learning pace

Our aim is to empower every individual learners

and encourage each child to believe that they
can achieve.
WHY DIAGNOSTIC TEST IS IMPORTANT?
Should be able to see the “root cause”
not only “appearance”
Facial Nerve Paralysis : a disease that a person can’t move the muscles
on one side of the face.

One of the king’s relatives got a facial nerve paralysis. Many doctors tried
to cure his illness by acupuncturing on his face, but couldn’t cure
completely. Recommended by others, Dr. Heo-Jun examined and cured
him with a medicine that is good for the stomach. Suspiciously looking at
the view that the treatment wasn’t on the face but for the stomach, other
relatives threatened him to kill if he couldn’t cure within 3 days. Eventually,
the man completely got recovered, and Heo-Jun survived.

“appearance” and “root cause”

Even though, a symptom was on his face, the cause was on his stomach.
Just like this case, learning won’t go well if the substance isn’t fixed.
Practicing the calculation of fractions won’t work, if we just judge by an
appearance of miscalculating fractions. It is important to fix the
substance by determine which part has a problem-whether if it’s from
simplification, division, time-table, addition or subtraction.

STARTING AT THE RIGHT LEVEL

A GOOD START IS
MORE THAN HALF THE RACE.
Students will take much longer to complete each
learning stage if they enter at a point or level
beyond their academic capability; they are more
likely to fail.

It clears up a number of learning difficulties of

students if we find the right starting point for them.
Mastery Learning
Students vary widely in their learning rates and modality. But if teachers
could provide the appropriate learning conditions nearly all students
could achieve a level of mastery (e.g. 90% on a knowledge test).

This cycle continues until the learner accomplishes mastery, and

they may then move on to the next stage.

There is a difference between what you can do VS. what you do well.

Small Step Approach

All materials are arranged in small steps in order to prevent

a learner from stumbling as much as possible. When an
individual learner makes a mistake, there is the risk of being
labeled a failure. Eye Level materials are organized into
different levels that facilitates smooth progress for all
leaners.

3 Build Content Knowledge through
Extensive Reading
Why Extensive Reading?

“When children read for pleasure, when they get ‘hooked

on books’ they acquire, involuntarily and without
conscious effort, nearly all of the so-called language
skills many people are so concerned about; They will
become adequate readers, acquire a large vocabulary,
develop the ability to understand and use complex
grammatical constructions, develop a good writing
style, and become good spellers.”
