Battery Replacemen: Procedure SECTION 2 GLOSSARY OF TERMS SECTION 2 GLOSSARY OF TERMS ‘+ Memory Disk (MD) A device used to store user files (Giles prepared by the user, such a8 machining programs) and system data (data specific to the individual machines) ‘+ System Data floppy disk Floppy disk used to save system data (data specific to the individual machines) ‘The system data floppy disk differs from the "backup floppy disk” provided with machining centers, ‘System data floppy disk is OSP format 3.5-inch Nloppy disk with 1.44 MB capacity. ‘+ User File floppy disk Floppy disk used to save user files (files prepared by the user, such as machining programs). User file floppy disk is OSP format 3.5-inch floppy disk with 1.44 MB capacity. + INSTALL MODE ewiteh ‘The switch identified as "INSTALL MODE". ‘The switch is provided on the panel, as illustrated below, in the electric control cabinet. ay Actual switch position may differ depending on machine models. Instead of a togele switch, a switch with indicating lamp in it may be used. (* fa feceasaceaed Pe “Saige OF eae ieecreaviar Yon =<, == S- =} Battery Replacemen: Procedure SECTION 3 DETAILS Checking the Battery Replacement Package ‘To replace the battery cassette, a service tool (explained in Item 3 "Preparing a Service Tool") and the battery replacement package supplied by Okuma are necessary. ‘The contents of a battery replacement package are shown below. Before staring battery cassette replacement, make sure that items a) to e) are all provided. Ifyou find a missing item, please contact your local Okuma service center. Battery Replacement Procedure SECTION 3 DETAILS (Q) Press the [EDITYAUXI (program operation) mode key on the NC operation panel. (2) Set a new floppy disk or a floppy disk that may be formatted to the floppy disk drive. Make ‘sure to use 2HD floppy disk. (3) From the function menu, select [INIT]. (4) Input as shown below by bold characters for the message displayed at the screen, =IN FD0:{WRITE] initialize OK(Y/N) ! YIWRITE] formatting(Y/N) ! Checking the Memory Boards Before starting battery cassette replacement, check the locations and the number of memory boards. 1) Open the electric control cabinet door and ensure the CPU rack position. 2) Check the locations and the number of memory boards in the CPU rack, (A battery cassette is mounted on a memory board and the memory board is i¢entified by "MEM" printed at the top of the board.) Make sure that the necessary number of battery cassettes (the same number as the installed memory boards) are in your Battery Replacement package. If the package does not contain the necessary number of battery cassettes, please contact your local Okuma Service Center. Memory board aS Battory Replacement Procedure SECTIONS DETAILS Preparing a Service Tool A tool necessary for replacing battery cassette is indicated below. Philipshead screwdriver (No. 2) Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette (1) Turn the INSTALL MODE switch "ON (D". For the INSTALL MODE switch position, see Section 2"GLOSSARY OF TERMS". (2) After turning ON the main ewitch, at the side of the electric control cabinet, turn on the control power. (3) Set the floppy disk labeled as "BATTERY EXCHANGE" in the Battery Replacement package to the floppy disk drive, (4) Press the SYSTEM RESET button. For the SYSTEM RESET switch position, see Section 2 "GLOSSARY OF TERMS". The screen as shown below will be displayed. [Battery exchange] 1. User files save 6. System data restoration 2. (@) Remove the BATTERY EXCHANGE floppy disk from the floppy disk drive. Battery Replacement Procedure SECTION 3 DETAILS 5. Saving the User Files (Q) ‘Set the floppy disk labeled as "USER FILES" in the Battery Replacement package to the floppy disk drive. (2) Input as shown below by bold characters for the message displayed at the sereen. Please choose a number. (1/2/8/4/5/6/7) !1IWRITE] Please press [WRITE] key after inserting a user files floppy. [WRITE] May user files be saved on a floppy¥/N) !¥[WRITE] (file name) User files save was completed. Please choose a number. Please insert a new floppy disk in order to continue, Is it continued (Y/N)! In this case, change the floppy disk to another User File floppy disk, prepared as explained in Item 1 "Checking the Battery Replacement Package" then press [¥] and [WRITE]. If User File floppy disk is not available, press (N] and [WRITE]. Thon, turn the INSTALL MODE switch, described in item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette", to the “OFF (0) position and turn off the control power. After that turn the control power on again and start the OSP in ordinary manner. Make the User File floppy disk according to the procedure explained in item 1 *Checking the Battery Replacement Package’. After making the User File floppy disk, perform the operation as described in item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette", (3) Remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive. Please wait for a while.-~ ++-Completed, ‘Turn off a power, and please rapidly exchange battery. ‘The battery cassette must be replaced quickly after turning the power off. Read and thoroughly understand the explanation in Item 8 "Replacing the Battery Cassette" before turning the power off. If a sufficient length of time has elapsed since turning on of the OSP, as explained in Item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette", the message of " Please wait for a while. +++ *++Completed " will not be displayed. Replacing the Battery Cassette Before starting the operation, read and understand steps (1) to (6). ‘Nomice hile a battery cassette “the memory board. Remove the screws marked with "s* (2 places) and remove the used battery cassette, ‘Mount a new battery cassette and hold it in place by tightening the screws marked with "«" (2 places), then connect the cable connectors (3 places). Three cables may be connected to any of the three connectors. If the OSP rack has two memory boards, repeat steps (2) to (4) 2 Battery Replacement Procedure SECTION 3 DETAILS Starting the OSP after Replacing the Battery Cassette Follow the same steps as explained in Item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette", (1) Make sure that the INSTALL MODE switch is "ON (D". (2) After turning ON the main switch, at the side of the electric control cabinet, tura on the control power. (3) Set the floppy disk labeled as "BATTERY EXCHANGE" in the Battery Replacement package to the floppy disk drive. (4) Press the SYSTEM RESET button. ‘The screen as shown below (the same screen as explained in Item 4 "Starting tl OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette") will be displayed. [Battery exchange] Please choose a number.(1/2/3/4/5/6/7) ! Remove the BATTERY EXCHANGE floppy disk from the floppy disk drive. 10. Restoring the Data after Replacing the Battery Cassette (Q) Input as shown below by bold characters for the message displayed at the screen. ‘The messages as shown below are displayed if battery cassettes have bzen replaced Please choose a number.(1/2/3/4/5/6/7) !4{WRITE] Was battery exchanged?(¥/N)!Y[WRITE] Memory check OK. In this case, please contact your local Okuma Service Center, After that turn off the control power, turn OFF the main switch and proceed to Item 11 "Starting the OSP for Initialization’, 13 Battery Replacement Procedure SECTION 5 DETAILS ———— 11. * The message indicated below is displayed if the result of battery voltage check is abnormal "Battery voltage insufficiency. If this message is displayed, it indicates that the battery connectors are not connected correctly or the battery cassette itself is faulty. ‘Turn off the control power and turn the main switch off, then check if the battery cassette has been replaced correctly. If the battery connectors are not connected correctly, connect them correctly and proceed to the operation described in Item 9 "Starting the OSP after Replacing the Battery Cassette" If the battery connectors are all connected correctly although the message above is displayed, please contact your local Okuma Service Center. (2) ‘Turn the INSTALL MODE SWITCH "OFF (0)", (3) Turn off the control power once and turn it on again to ensure that battery related alarm ‘message is not displayed. Battery voltage insufficiency. ‘The probable cause of this message is incorrect connection of battery connectors or faulty battery. ‘Turn off the main switch after turning off the control power and check the battery cassette if it hhas been replaced correctly. Initialize the MD again. If the message of " Battery voltage insufficiency." is still displayed, please contact your local Okuma Service Center. Installing the MD Install the MD according to the procedure described in the maintenance manual of the machine, 15 Battery Replacement Procedure SECTION 3 DETAILS 14. Starting the OSP for Restoration Follow the same steps as explained in Item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette" (1) Make sure that the INSTALL MODE switch is "ON (0. (2) After turning ON the main switch, at the side of the electric control cabinet, turn on the control power. (3) Set the floppy disk labeled as "BATTERY EXCHANGE" in the Battery Replacement package to the floppy disk drive. (@) Press the SYSTEM RESET button. ‘The screen as shown below (the same screen as explained in Item 4 "Starting the OSP before Replacing the Battery Cassette") will be displayed. [Battery exchange] Please choose a number.(1/2/3/4/5/67) ! (5) Remove the BATTERY EXCHANGE floppy disk from the floppy disk drive, 15. (4) If more than one System Data floppy disk exists, as prepared by the operation explained in Item 6 "Saving the System Data", repeat steps (1) to (3) for each floppy disk.
