Case: A strong earthquake shocked Central Luzon which caused Linda (16 years old) to be pinned down under

the major concrete foundation.

Upon assessment, there was no way to save her life except to cut her right leg which was keeping her from being moved to a safer place.
Linda’s parents disagree because Linda is a promising dancer also there was no assurance that Linda will survive even if she was brought to the
nearest hospital after amputation.
Questions:
1. What ethical principle is demonstrated in the case?
- Since the practitioner acts or suggests amputating her right leg to keep Linda’s alive, which is beneficial for the patient because it can
prolong her life which are dealt ethically not merely by respecting Linda's decisions and safeguarding her from harm, but also by
attempting to assure her well-being. Furthermore, because the patient is still a minor, the goal is to promote the welfare of her and should
possess skills and knowledge that enable them to assist others.

2. What steps will you take to assist the family in coming up with the best decision?
- I will advise the family in making the best decision possible by explaining the procedure so that I can push them to make the right decision
if their choice is what will be good for their child to remove the pain in any of Linda’s body because she only needs her parents to fight in
the next situation that happens to her. And assist them in considering the pros and drawbacks of each decision by discussing each
alternative their physician offered. By attempting to explain the physician's vocabulary, they will be able to grasp it more simply. During
the conversation, I would also be open to queries from the patient or her significant others. In this approach, I can respect the patient's
autonomy while still guiding them through the decision-making process.
3. What will be your basis to come up with the most ethical decision?
- As a nursing student, my basis for making the best ethical option is Linda's life; whether they have beliefs or not, it's important that a patient's life is
saved. There is a life depending on our decision at the time; either she perished on the spot, beneath the concrete, or we try amputating her leg to
increase her chances of survival. In such an alternative, I consider if going through such a decision will allow me satisfy my duty and responsibility to
the patient.
