Prerequisites for NHI will simplify tracking, alignment, standardization, and the capacity to
monitor and enhance service uniformity, level of treatment, and efficacy, while administrative,
therapeutic, and financial data will be minimized and streamlined. Because data standards like
NHII are evolving (and especially interoperability and data interchange are becoming more
popular), more and more healthcare organizations will be able to participate.
A functioning NHII might be a vital source of data for health care system enforcement and
oversight. Increased understanding of the adoption of sophisticated high-level engineering
techniques (risk analysis) for these large data sets could lead to promising developments in
"prediction medicine" in most hospitals, paper-based schemes are now in common use, which was
declared obsolete as long ago as can be seen. It is essential to advance the aims of the IOM's vision
of a system that serves patients and encourages a high level of compassion. This design plan will
take ten years to complete, including the inclusion of upcoming developments and appropriate
long-term planning.
