the following quality characteristics:
 Purity: ≥ 99.5 vol. % O2
 Water content: ≤ 0.05 mg/L oxygen
 Tasteless and odorless
 For the maximum permissible contaminants national
regulations apply, in the USA for example 42 CFR, Part 84
(NIOSH):
carbon monoxide (CO): 0.001 Vol.-%
carbon dioxide (CO2): 0.03 Vol.-%
The maximum charging pressure is 3000 psi/206 bar.

WARNING
! Ensure that the connections are not soiled with oil or

Testing

Testing
Before starting up for the first time and whenever the
PSS BG 4 has been serviced.

Testing the PSS BG 4 with Inserted

CO2 Absorber
During the shelf life of the apparatus (see table “Technical Data”
on page 66, section CO2 absorber (factory-packed cartridge with
footnotes 4 and 5 and refill cartridge with footnotes 5 and 7)) the
operating test can be run a total of six times, each test lasting no
more than 15 minutes.
A record of each test should be made on the CO2 absorber
housing, with details of the month and year and the tester’s initials.
Exceptionally, if the breathing circuit is opened for more than
5 minutes, the CO2 absorber apertures should be sealed with
three PE plugs to prevent escape of gas.

Trouble-shooting
PROBLEM POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

Minimum Valve Leak: - Clean Assembly

Note: A leaking Minimum Valve - Tighten Crater Nut
will cause High Dosage in - Replace Tin Washer
Breathing Loop. - Replace Valve Complete

Low Dosage: - Check Blue Dosage Line and Connections for Leaks
- Clean or Replace Dosage Screw

Page 74
- Check to make sure leak is not from the filter on the basic unit or
switch box
- Replace First Stage Reducer

High Dosage: - Isolate the ByPass Line from the Dosage Line
If the dosage lowers then the problem is a Leaking ByPass.
- Try removing the ByPass Assembly and Reassemble.
- Replace the First Stage Reducer
If the dosage stays the same then:
- Check Dosage Screw for tightness
- Replace the Dosage Screw

isolating component by component.

Draeger Training 11/16 rev 1

Draeger BG4 Iso Training 1/14
• The purpose of the following instructions is to isolate
where a low pressure leak maybe initiated from in a BG4 using approved
Draeger Test Equipment.

Water is still needed to locate the leak.

 X means this part is blocked or plugged.

Page 80
 O means this part is where pressure enters.

 TEST means to apply 7 to 10 mbar of pressure, clamp tubing and time

pressure loss in 1 minute.
(Remember Connector Cap under RELIEF VALVE)

 PASS = Less than 1mbar loss of pressure in one minute

 FAIL = More than 1mbar loss of pressure in one minute

Bodyguard II & Sentinel II Battery Status

Bodyguard II & Sentinel II Battery Status

As a result of a recent notification from the manufacturer of our currently approved Ultralife battery,
stating that the design has been altered; this battery now no longer conforms to the certification
required. Dräger have one new replacement battery approved however, we are also in the process of
attaining approval for a new Sentinel II BG4 battery.

The recently approved battery, Duracell Ultra Power must be used for all Bodyguard II units including
those for BG4, which will allow all remaining Dräger stock of the existing Ultralife battery to be
allocated only for use with Sentinel II for BG4. The Ultralife battery is currently the only Dräger
supplied 9V battery with MSHA approval. Until additional MSHA approval is complete, the new
Duracell Ultra Power battery cannot be used with Sentinel II BG4.

Timelines for approval of the new battery is currently anticipated to be mid 2014 although the
approval house have advised this is subject to change due to workload, R&D will continue to liaise
closely with them in order to expedite this.
