The load test on a DC motor is

by a belt and

spring balances provided on the two sides of the Fig

The speed of the DC motor is given by the following expression,

Speed of rotation, N = k

PRECAUTION FOR SERIES MOTOR

While starting a Series Motor, precaution must be takenthat it should never be started without some mechanical
load on it, otherwise it may develop excessive speed and may get damaged due to large centrifugal forces. Since
the Series Motor has high starting torque and also its speed varies inversely proportional to the flux load, its load
is large and thereby speed is low.

wORKING OF CONTROL PANEL TO PERFORM LOAD TEST

Connect the DC power supply of 230V on terminals Ll & L2 marked as DC input & switch on DPIC.
The yellow indicator will blow and the voltmeter will show the source
voltage.
Make the connections of DC Motor connection plate with control panel terminal as shown above.

Move the DC starter arm slowly, till the motor builds up the speed and finally cut out all the resistance
steps of the starter. Starter arm will then be hoBld up by the holding magnet of the starter.

. Record the values of load current and the field current on NO LOAD.

. Now load the motor by tightening the belt on the pulley through the wheels and record the reading of
voltmeter and ammeter and readings of both the spring balances in KGs.

Repeat step No 5 by increasing the load on motor insteps till the rated current of the motor as shown by
specification plate of motor

Always maintain source voltage constant to its rated value.

Remove the load gradually and then the stop motor by switching off the DPIC.
9. Before loading water is filled in the cavity of the drum pulley for cooling purpose during loading.
