Description

The Network and Services Technician program is for individuals who wish to enter

the Information Technology profession. No Information Technology pre-knowledge is
required.

The Network and Services Technician program is an 8-month program that provides

the student with a general knowledge base that can be applied in both the SOHO
networking environment as well as targeting a junior position in a larger corporate IT
department. The focus is to provide the graduate with a broad based basic
competency in a number of key areas.

The successful graduate has a basic to intermediate understanding of a number of

IT areas.

These include:

 Client Operating Systems: MS Windows, Linux

 Server Operating Systems: MS Windows, Linux
 Network Equipment Infrastructure: Cisco CCNA training
 Network Cable Plant Infrastructure: BICSI inspired instruction
 Wireless Communication: Cisco AP's
 VoIP: Cisco Communication Manager Express
 PC Hardware Support: A+ Hardware and Software

Criterion Minimum Requirement
You must have graduated in the past 3 years from a designated post-secondary institution in Manitoba
Education (minimum one year, two semesters, full-time coursework).

You must have a full-time job offer from an eligible Manitoba employer, with a minimum 1-year contract
on Manitoba’s published In-Demand Occupations list that is consistent with your completed program of

Adaptability
*International students who lost or want to change employment must inform the
MPNP. Each case will be reviewed and given consideration. There are no set rules
or guidelines as there may be a number of reasons that an international student may
lose or need to change employment. It is best to contact the MPNP to discuss your

are invited to submit an MPNP application

STEP 3
 Following a thorough assessment, the MPNP nominates successful candidates
to make a separate application to the Government of Canada for permanent
resident visas for you and your family.

(NOC 2281 – Computer network technicians)

Computer network technicians establish, operate, maintain and co-ordinate the use
of local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs), mainframe networks, hardware,
software and related computer equipment. They set up and maintain Internet and
intranet Web sites and Web-server hardware and software, and monitor and
optimize network connectivity and performance. They are employed in information
technology units throughout the private and public sectors. Supervisors of computer
network technicians are included in this unit group.

This group performs some or all of the following duties:

 Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and administer local area networks (LANs),

wide area networks (WANs), mainframe networks, computer workstations,
connections to the Internet and peripheral equipment
 Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software, operating
system software and software applications
 Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems
and networks and to co-ordinate access and use of computer networks
 Provide problem-solving services to network users
 Install, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade Web-server hardware and
software
 Implement network traffic and security monitoring software, and optimize
server performance
 Perform routine network start up and close down and maintain control records
 Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
 Conduct tests and perform security and quality controls
 Control and monitor e-mail use, Web navigation, and installed software
 Perform shell scripting or other basic scripting tasks
 May supervise other workers in this group.
