Very Good! harm and injury to people.

Yes Juneau!
Student 2: Yes! Sometimes.
Where do you see them most often?
Student 2: at our Comfort Room

One of the biggest negative effects of pests

and rodents to humans is they harm human
health. Most of these animals are carriers of
disease, either directly or indirectly.

They also have the ability to breed rapidly,

especially under favorable conditions, which
is why it is such a concern when there is an
infestation in your house.

Let’s Discover!

Household Pests
● Insects (students: reading the definition of
- a type of small animal with six different insects)
legs, a body divided into three parts,
and often two pairs of wings.

- cockroaches
- flies
- mosquitoes
- ants
- termites
- fleas
- bed bugs
● Rodents
- a gnawing mammal of an order.
- mice
- rats

These pests cause diseases and health

hazards in people.
These creatures are the primary
carriers of diseases and illnesses that
can be passed on to humans through
bites or droppings.

D. Lesson Proper

Let’s Not Forget!

Pests and Rodents bring harm to

human health by causing damage to
the house, and carrying and spreading
diseases. For most of these common
pests, the foremost prevention and
control is to eliminate the place where
they can breed and survive.
There are common Diseases brought
by pests and rodents include:

 Dengue fever – a mosquito-borne

viral disease that, when developed
into severe dengue, results to :

●bleeding
● low levels of blood platelets
● blood plasma leakage

 Malaria – an infectious disease from

mosquitoes.
● yellow skin
● seizures
● coma
● organ failure

 Typhoid – a bacterial infection.

● high (fever,stomach pains, and-in

worst cases – internal bleeding and
death.

 Encephalitis – a viral infection that

results to the inflammation of the
brain carried by infected mosquitoes.
 Leptospirosis – a bacterial infection,
usually from rat droppings and urine,
that can cause headaches, muscle
pain, jaundice, and major organ
damage.
 Salmonellosis – an infection caused
by Salmonella bacteria, from the
contamination of food and water by
several pests, that generally results to
diarrhea, fever, and abdominal
cramps.

To prevent such diseases. we need to

practice the following methods on how
to prevent and control the spread and
transfer of diseases brought by pests
and rodents.

Please read the methods on how to

prevent and control the spread of (students: reading the methods)
diseases carried by pests and rodents.

Prevention and Control

1. Make sure they have no place to

breed.
2. Do not leave uncovered food lying
around. Keep them in tightly
sealed containers and immediately
wipe or clean crumbs.
3. Clean the house regularly.
Focusing on areas where these
pests are more likely to infest and
breed.
4. Put all rubbish into the bin and
empty it regularly.
5. Remove open containers where
stagnant water may collect over
time, like old tires and drums.
6. Use the toilet properly and wash
after each use.
7. Use screens on windows, doors,
and vents where pests can enter.
8. If you must, use chemical
pesticides and insecticides, and
repellents.
9. If suspecting of an early
infestation, lay out traps and baits
around the house.
