Date May 11, 2023 Quarter 3rd
Time 50 minutes No. of Days 1

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

I. OBJECTIVES a. identify frictional force and gravitational force;
b. appreciate the importance of frictional force and
gravitational force; and
c. perform the frictional force and gravitational force.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of gravity and friction
affect movement of objects
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to produce an advertisement
demonstrates road safety
C. Learning The learners should be able to infer how friction and gravity
Competency/Objectives affect movements of different objects.

Recall The teacher will ask the pupils about their previous
lesson/topic.
Lesson Proper Activity 1:
A. ACTIVITY “Gravity or Friction”
 Observe the picture and the pupils will guess or choose
between gravity or friction.

GRAVITY OR FRICTION GRAVITY OR FRICTION

GRAVITY OR FRICTION GRAVITY OR FRICTION

B. ANALYSIS The students will answer the following:

1. What can you observe in our activity? What do you

think is our lesson today?
2. What force cause moving object to stop and prevents
them from continuously sliding on a smooth surfaces?
3. Why do we not fall off to the earth?
4. Why do we not float in the air after we jumped?

C. ABSTRACTION The teachers will discuss the gravitational forces and frictional
forces:
 The force of gravity, or gravitational force, pulls objects
with mass toward each other. We often think about the
force of gravity from Earth. This force is what keeps
your body on the ground. But any object with mass
exerts a gravitational force on all other objects with
mass.
Example of Gravity:
- Water in glass
- An apple falling from tree
- Rainfall
- Tides in ocean
 Sir Isaac Newton was the scientist who discovered the
principle of gravity. He discovered that there is
gravitational force between things and Earth.

 Frictional force is the opposing force that is created

between two surfaces that try to move in the same
direction or that try to move in opposite directions. The
main purpose of a frictional force is to create resistance
to the motion of one surface over the other surface.
The frictional force depends on the body surface
textures.
Example of Friction:
- Driving of a vehicle on a surface
- Skating
- Walking on the road
- Sliding on a garden slide
D. APPLICATION Directions: Write Gravitational or Frictional to identify the
force.

__________1. A boy gliding across the floor

__________2. A guava falls from the box.
__________3. A driver steps on the brake.
__________4. Mangoes fell to the ground.
__________5. Children gliding in the slump.

E. EVALUATION Directions: Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the
chosen letter on a separate sheet of paper.
1. What is a gravitational force?
a. A force of attraction between two objects with
mass
b. A repulsive force between any two objects with
mass
c. A force that is proportional to the square root of
an object’s mass
d. A force between any two objects, whether or not
they have mass or energy
2. Where is the gravitational force directed when you are
holding a glass?
a. Upward
b. Downward
c. Into the glass
d. Away from the glass
3. Which of the following shows the presence of friction?
a. Cars continuously roll down hills
b. Things fall off on smooth surfaces
c. People stay in place as they move.
d. Cars stop when the driver steps on the brakes
4. Which of the following illustrate the usefulness of
friction?
a. Fiction can cause burning
b. Friction helps machine to work.
c. Friction can damage car wheels.
d. Friction helps us to walk in the ground.
5. Why is gravity so important?
a. Because it keeps us on earth.
b. Because it helps us jump higher.
c. Because it is a property of all matter
d. Because it keeps us from falling into space.

F. GENERALIZATION  Ask the pupils of the following:

1. What have you learned today?
2. How gravity and friction important in our
daily living?

G. ASSIGNMENT
How friction can be desirable and undesirable in our everyday
lives. Use examples to support your answer.
