PROTOTYPE LESSON PLAN

Learning Grade Level: Four Quarter: Duration: 50 mins.

Area: SCIENCE Third Quarter
Week 1_Day3
Learning Explain the effects of force when applied to an Code:
Competency/ies: object S4FE-IIIa-1
(Taken from the MELCs)
I. OBJECTIVES:

Cognitive Explain the effects of force on the movement of an object.

Affective Appreciate the importance of force in our daily life by listing down the
effects of force on the movement of objects.
Psychomotor Demonstrate how force can affect the movement of objects.

II. SUBJECT MATTER Effects of Force on the Movement of Objects

A. References

B. Materials Small plastic toy car, meter stick

C. Process Skills: observing, predicting, explaining, inferring, describing

D. Values Integration: Consideration for others

III. PROCEDURE

A. ENGAGEMENT

1. Review the effects of force on the size of an object through a game.

a. Call a big boy and a small boy in class.
b. Ask the boys to push the teacher’s table one at a time within 10 seconds.

Ask: Who among the two boys was able to push the table farther from them
after 10 seconds?
Who exerted less force to push?
Does the size of the body affect the force to be exerted to push the
table?
Prove your answer.

B. EXPLORATION

1. Group the pupils into four small groups.

2. Set norms in performing the activities.
3. Let the pupils perform the activity on LM, Lesson 46: “How does force affect the
movement of an object?”.
4. Supervise the pupils while performing the activity and give assistance whenever
needed.
5. Allot time for the pupils to wrap up and finalize their output.

C. Explanation
1. Reporting of Output
2. Discussion using the guide questions on page 176
a. How do you compare the distance travelled by the toy car when you
pushed
it with varying strength of forces?
b. Which degree of force applied made the toy car travelled the farthest from
the starting point? Nearest the starting point?
c. What factors do you think affected the movement of the toy car?

3. ASK:
How did you find the activity?
What strategies did you apply in order to win?

D. Elaboration

Remember this!

 Force can change the position of an object.

 The greater the force, the greater the distance covered by an object.
 Force can change the shape of an object.
 Some object return to their original shape after the release of force and some
not.

Additional Activity: Just For Fun

a. Group pupils into 3.
b. Look for a flat and smooth surface in the school ground.
c. Mark a starting point and finish line in atleast 2-meter distance.
d. The first two players will stay on the starting and finish line.
e. The first player on the starting line will blow the toy car up to the finish line;
the third player will reverse and blow it back to the starting line. The first to
reach the starting line will be the winner.
