LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARDS
The learners identify how heat travel using solid materials.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
The learners should be able to demonstrate conceptual understanding of properties
or characteristics of heat.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES/ OBJECTIVES

The learners should be able to describe how heat travel.
(S4FE-IIIf-g-4)

II. CONTENT
HEAT TRANSFER IN SOLID MATERIALS (CONDUCTION)

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. REFERENCES
1. TEACHER’S GUIDE PAGES: Science Teacher’s Guide 4, pp 233- 235
2. LEARNER’S MATERIALS PAGES: Science Learner’s Material 4
pp 186-188
3. TEXTBOOK PAGES: Science and Technology 4, pp 193- 195

B. OTHER LEARNING RESOURCES

 Jigsaw Puzzle, Pictures, Concrete Objects, Powerpoint Presentation,
Rubrics, Improvised thermometer

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson
 Using an improvised thermometer, let the pupils identify the temperature
as to its degrees of coldness or hotness.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Engage)

 Jigsaw Puzzle
1. Let five (5) pupils arrange the puzzle pieces to form pictures of heat
producing materials.
2. Ask the following guide questions:
- What is the similarities of the given materials?
- Where do we usually used or see these materials?
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson (Explore)
 Group Activity.
1. The pupils would be grouped into four (4).
2. The activity would be introduced and the following guide questions
would be given:
- What happened to the exposed end of the solid material after five
minutes?
- What did you notice about the outside surface of the mug when
you touched it? Why?
- How can we make the solid materials reduce its heat to avoid being
hurt?
3. Then, the materials needed would be given.
4. Let each of the group choose their representative to present their
output.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 (Explain)

 Presentation of output
 Process the output of the pupils
 Present some more solid materials and let the pupils identify whether the
material is a conductor or insulator.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 (Elaborate)

 Discuss the transfer of heat with various solid materials.
 Guide Questions:
1. Can you identify some solid materials that you can see around?
2. When can you say that a material is solid?
3. Why do these materials absorb heat?
4. How do heat travel with these solid materials?
 Let the pupils distinguish conductors from insulators.

F. Developing Mastery (Formative Assessment)

 Group Activity
1. Let the pupils do their own given task.
GROUP 1 – Identify three (3) solid materials which are conductors.
(Metacards)
GROUP 2 - Identify three (3) solid materials which are insulators.
(Pictures)
GROUP 3 – Draw the process of heat transfer from one material to
another.
GROUP 4 – Arrange the given letters to determine the heat-
producing materials.

 RUBRICS:
These are the following rubrics presented to the pupils before doing the
group activity.
1. For Group 2 (Pictures Identification) and Group 3 (Drawing)

2. For Group 1 (Identifying) and Group 4 (Scribbling)

3. For the over- all performance of the pupils in group activity.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

 The pupils would be asked to answer an activity orally through the
PowerPoint Presentation.
 Guide Questions:
1. Why is heat important in our lives?
2. How do heat makes our work easier?
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
 What is the difference between insulators and conductors?
 How do heat travel in solid materials?

I. Evaluating Learning (Evaluate/ Evaluation)

 Let the pupils answer the given handouts.
J. Additional activities for application or remediation (Assignment)
 Draw atleast five (5) insulators and conductors on a short bondpaper.
