II. CONTENT

How heat is transferred through solid materials

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teachers Guide pages pp 233-241

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous Lesson or presenting new lesson.

Finding objects inside the box and identify whether they are magnetic or non-magnetic object.
1. Spoon
2. Pencil
3. Book
4. Coin
5. Nail
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Look at the following pictures. Why do cooking utensils have handles made of wood or plastic?
Why are cooking utensils are made of metals?

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lessons

How heat transferred from one object to another?
Let’s find out the answer after watching a video performing the activity.
You can show video lesson about the activity.
After watching a video performing heat transfer what did you notice?
1. What happened to the expose end of the spoon after 5 minutes?
The expose end of the spoon became hot after 5 minutes
Ans. The expose end of the spoon became hot after 5 minutes
2. What did you notice about the outside surface of the mug when they touch it? Why?
The outside surface of the mug became hot because the heat inside of it spreads through
the mug

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills no. 1

The words below are the words that you will encounter as we continue with the lesson
1. Heat - is a form of energy associated with the motion of particles and capable of being
transmitted through solid and liquid media
2. Conductors- transfer of heat through solid materials by direct contact
3. Conduction- these materials allow heat to flow through easily
4. Insulators – these are materials which heat passes slowly or not at all

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills no 2

1. How heat transferred from one object to another?

Complete the paragraph by choosing the correct words inside the box

Conductor
Substance
Heat Conduction
Insulator
Direct
1. Conduction is the process of ____ transfer through a ________ or from a substance to
another by _____ contact.
2. ___________ are materials that allow heat to flow through easily while ________ are
materials through which heat passes slowly or not at all.

F. Developing mastery leads to formative assessment no 3

Tell the pupils to look objects from the pictures that are posted and classify them whether conductor or
insulator.

1. Metal spoon
2. Cloth
3. Wood
4. Pan
5. plastic

G. Finding Practical application of concepts and skills in daily living

EPP integration
As a grade four pupils, how will handle hot or flammable materials at home in a safe way? List
down some practices at home that you do in handling hot and flammable materials

Here are the possible practices at home, answer yes if you have experienced these practices and
no if never have been done these practices.

1. I will use insulators like potholder made of cloth whenever I touch hot object
2. I will not play with flammable material because it might cause fire
3. I will use wet materials to handle hot objects

H. Making Generalization and Abstraction about the lesson

1. What have you learned?
2. What is the reason why heat can be transferred from one object to another?
3. How does heat travels by conductions?

Metal is a good conduction of heat. Conduction occurs when a substance is heated, particles will gain
more energy and vibrate more. These molecules then bump into nearby particles and transfer some of
their energy to them. Heat can be transferred by conduction convection and radiation.

i. Evaluating learning

Direction: Write C if the materials is a conductor and I if it is an insulator

1. Toothpick
2. Key
3. Reubberband
4. Frying pan
5. Coin
6. Nail
7. Mug
8. Plastic toy
9. ball
10. wood
