General objective
This module covers fundamentals of industrial data network. Students will be introduced to
application of computing techniques in industries for data communication. The module provides
details on communication protocols that can be employed in industrial data communication.

Learning outcomes

1. On completion of the module, the students will be able to:

2. Identify the data network required for a specific application.
3. Explain the process of industrial data communication.
4. Describe topology, cabling and coding scheme used in ethernet communication.
5. Identify various networking and internetworking devices.
6. Employ Fieldbuses based on the requirement of the design.
7. Check for errors in MODBUS protocol.
8. Design data network for industrial purposes.
9. Differentiate the frequency bands of radio transmission for their application.
10. Compare 10Mbps Ethernet with 100Mbps Ethernet.
